AFTER a flurry of games to start the season, today’s Hamilton and District Cricket Association A grade schedule brings to an end the Twenty20 games.
Pigeon Ponds only needs one win from the remaining two games to ensure it finishes in the top two and claims a spot in the T20 decider next month, while College and St Andrew’s are the two teams fighting it out for the other spot.
Round six
COLLEGE and Pigeon Ponds will face-off in an intriguing battle at Haymes Paint Oval to open proceedings.
Both teams have batsmen which have blasted their team to victory already this season, as Eagles skipper, Charles Murrie, can find the boundary with ease, while Simon Close can clear most boundaries in the competition and will be pivotal to Ponds’ hopes of starting the day with a win.
The bowlers will play a big role in the contest, as both teams look to grab early wickets and apply pressure in the field.
CASTERTON District and Grampians will lock horns at KFC Oval in a bottom two clash.
Both teams have struggled in the T20 format, yet to win a game, but a positive for both teams is one side will break through to claim their first win of the season.
The Maroons have a balanced side, while the Pumas have plenty of talent as well, setting up an enthralling battle.
MACARTHUR will travel to PP3 to take on the Drews in a game the Demons will be desperate to win.
The visitors have only taken 12 wickets so far this season, the equal least in the association and will need regular wickets if they are to curtail the Drews on one of the fastest grounds in the association this early in the season.
The Drews will go in as favourites, but are missing some key personnel still, giving opportunities to others on the last day of the shortest format part of the season.
Hamilton will start the day with a bye.
Round seven
THE Blues will then take to the field for a clash against Pigeon Ponds at Haymes Paint Oval in what will be a big test for the home side.
Ponds are one of the form sides of the competition and with the Blues starting the season with just one win from give games, it will be a tough ask for Hamilton to overcome the strength of the visitors.
COLLEGE and Casterton District will take to KFC Oval in what could be a T20 final deciding clash.
The Eagles have plenty to play for, while the Maroons will be hoping to finish the day on a winning note and cause an upset.
GRAMPIANS and Macarthur will finish the day’s proceedings when they face-off at PP3 in what is a game which could go either way.
Both teams have been unable to generate any real winning momentum so far this season, but the talent in both sides will make for a fascinating encounter on Pedrina Park’s back oval.
The Drews will have an early finish to the day, drawing a bye to sit out the final T20 game of the round.
