TOBI Cook has posted the first century of the Hamilton and District Cricket Association (HDCA) A grade season, as he took the Casterton bowlers apart at Island Park to help the Blues chase down the winning target on Saturday.
Rick Killey won the toss for Casterton and elected to bat first, as he and Ben Holmes combined well to post a run rate of three per over to have 41 on the board before Holmes (16) was well caught by A grade debutant, Brad Field, from the bowling of Brandon Weatherson.
Killey batted on and found support from Joe McArlein as the pair added 56 for the third wicket, but with the fall of McArlein’s wicket, Casterton lost 5-23, as the line-up failed to improve on the start handed them by Killey and McArlein.
It was an impressive performance once again from Hamish Kearney, as he proved economical and grabbed wickets as well.
The youngster finished with 3-28 from his nine overs to lead the way for the Blues bowlers.
The Maroons’ final score of 9-157 never really looked to be enough on the synthetic surface where the ball bounces truly for the batsmen and so it would come to pass as the Hamilton top order dined out on the home side bowling.
Carl Rhook (38-not-out) and Tobi Cook (108-not-out) added 151 undefeated for the second wicket, as Hamilton raced to the required score to record a bonus point victory after only 28 overs.
Cook was devastating in striking his hundred from only 80 balls, as helped the ball reach the fence on 10 occasions and over it a further five times.
It was a confidence boosting win for the visitors, as they look to get the season back on track and create winning momentum once again.
The victory lifts Hamilton into the top four whilst Casterton need to get some of their regular players back on the park ASAP or their hopes of reaching the finals will be over.
