APPLICATIONS have opened for another round of funding from the State Government’s $13.5 million Community Cricket Program.
More than $1.5 million will be available to community clubs and councils to do works on cricket infrastructure, including training nets, and changeroom upgrades.
Many of the local upgrades done at grounds around Hamilton have been done using different grants and funding programs, with the new round of applications opening in time for the start of the annual Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
It is hoped the infrastructure upgrades will help clubs remain sustainable amid hopes that clubs will flourish, as communities recover from lockdowns and other Covid restrictions during the past two years.
Since 2019, the Community Cricket Program – Community Facilities stream has invested more than $3.9 million in 42 cricket infrastructure projects across Victoria.
Community sport minister, Ros Spence said infrastructure upgrades would help the next generation of players and administrators.
“Summer means cricket in Victoria, that’s why we’re getting on with helping clubs and councils build the facilities they need,” she said.
“By investing in better facilities, we’re opening more opportunities for all to get involved in their local club and follow in the footsteps of their cricket heroes.”
