Hamilton in the Dundas Cup hunt

A MIXED start to the season has seen the Blues grab a top two spot after 11 rounds, despite three washouts in the first month.

Wins against Macarthur and College have also boosted Hamilton’s stocks, as those two teams will be among the top four come finals time.

Brandon Weatherson has settled into the captaincy well and Hamish Kearney has enjoyed his permanent promotion into the top grade, grabbing eight wickets to date.

Caleb Millard has led the Blues’ attack and has claimed nine wickets alongside Weatherson, while Tobi Cook’s efforts in the top order has seen him top the club’s run tally with 292, already surpassing his 2020-21 season total.

Cameron Templeton remains one of the more experienced players in the group and has offered Weatherson plenty of support in the early parts of the season.

The batting is an area the Blues will be hoping to improve after the break, as the team’s haul of 926 is the lowest in the association, but with three washouts early in the season, that has no doubt contributed.

Cook’s runs is well clear of the second highest tally at the club, Anthony Read’s 139.

Michael Ross is one of the most damaging with willow in hand across the association, but has yet to fire a shot with just 73 runs and a highest score of 24.

The other promising thing for the club is the fact youngsters like Tyler Ellis and Noah Cameron have got game time, as Hamilton tries to juggle bringing the next generation of players through, while still pushing to go deep in the Dundas Cup campaign.

If the team can continue to get contributions from each of the players, the Blues will be a tough team to beat at the business end of the season.
