THE Hamilton and District Cricket Association (HDCA) Under-16 season resumed on Tuesday with one player enjoying it more than everyone else.
Hamilton’s Tyler Ellis had a day to remember, collecting a double hat-trick against College Gold at College Turf.
The Blues quick took the new ball, but it was his second spell that devastated the home side, running riot through College’s middle and lower order to finish with the figures of 5-22 from 5.4 overs.
Charlie Whitehead was the first to fall, followed by Wade Mackellar, Tom Templeton and Jude Alexander to wrap up the innings.
Ellis’ spell kept the Blues in the game, as the Eagles got off to a flying start through Jack Austin and Eli Hunter, before Ellis forced a false stroke from Austin to dismiss him for 25.
Hunter pushed on and got to 50-retired, while Jack Wortley’s 52-retired came off just 57 balls.
From there though, the highest score was two, as the Eagles struggled to maintain the scoring rate in the lead-up to Ellis’ impact in the final overs of the innings.
The home team was bowled out for 143 in the 35th over.
It means Isaac Shaw and Archie Buck had to see out the day’s play with 10 overs to face, as Buck’s 20-not-out guided the Blues to 0-29 at stumps.
Grampians v St Andrew’s
THE Pumas hosted the Drews at Monivae College and the Pumas bowled first after calling the toss correctly.
Fraser Hill (33) and Lachie Nield (50-retired) set a strong foundation at the top of the Drews’ batting order, with Aiden Brown (19), Aisha Hendriks (14) and Cody Glenn (13) contributing in the middle order to help the visitors to 7-161 at stumps.
Wynn Rentsch grabbed two wickets for the Pumas.
College Blue v Casterton District
THE Maroons faced College Blue and batted first after winning the toss, as early wickets ruined the scoring momentum of the visitors.
Sullivan Gibbs’ 16 proved to be the best of the top order before he was knocked over by Jock Barrie, with nobody else in the top four able to score more than three runs.
Oliver Foster was patient at the crease, facing 82 balls for his 22 runs, as the Blue bowlers continued to bowl aggressively at the stumps.
Ricky Kaliebe added an unbeaten nine runs at number 11 to help push Casterton District’s total up to 77, as the last wicket fell inside 28 overs.
College Blue then took to the middle to see out the remaining overs of the day and Henry Bensch was first to fall with two runs to his name.
George Huf was back in the sheds soon after without scoring, with Barrie also unable to trouble the scorers.
It was Cooper Edmonds’ 25-not-out and George Austin’s 21 that helped push the total up to 4-70 at stumps.
Rhys Southern grabbed two wickets for the Maroons, as part of the team’s 16-over stint before stumps.
