TAHARA has put up one of the biggest scores across the Hamilton and District Cricket Association (HDCA) season during its B grade clash against Hamilton North on Saturday.
The Blue Caps had home ground advantage and got sent to the crease first by the Hammers, wasting little time getting the scoreboard ticking over.
Kieran Barker was first to fall for 24, but by that point the score was already 72, thanks to Josh Pepper, who blasted 114 runs from just 49 balls; a knock which included 13 boundaries and seven maximums.
Robert Jacobson eventually got the breakthrough, but the Blue Caps had 192 on the board with plenty of time still to bat.
Brad Gauci (86) and Sam Brewer (78) helped push the home side’s total up to 4-357 after 40 overs.
Jacobson and Sam Groves grabbed two wickets each for the visitors.
The Hammers struggled to replicate the aggression in the run chase, falling to 2-27 with both openers back in the pavilion for nine runs each.
Brett Ezard offered some resistance at number three with 33 runs, while Jacobson (57-not-out) and Eli Crutch (46) ensured Hamilton North at least batted out its 40 overs, finishing on 6-174.
Brett Holmes grabbed three wickets for the home side.
St Andrew’s d. College
THE Drews travelled to College Turf and the Eagles had the ascendancy early, calling the coin toss correctly and electing to bat first.
Both openers were dismissed with 25 on the scoreboard, while Elton Brinkmann (57) and Leigh Alexander (23) helped steady the innings for the home team.
Cameron Penny took the attack to the Drews bowlers, reaching 65-not-out from 66 balls, as Toby Barrie (five) was the only one of the bottom six batsmen to score more than one run, as Penny helped College to 9-182 after 40 overs.
Dale Harris and Heath Pither grabbed two wickets each for the visitors.
It was a steady approach from the Drews in the second innings, as neither Tom Agar or Harry Austin could break through and grab early wickets with the new ball for College.
Jamie Logan (43) and Josh Evans (68) set a positive foundation for the visitors, as Andy O’Connor (34) and Jayden Polaski (45-not-out) helped the Drews to victory, reaching 5-226 at stumps.
Jock Barrie was at his economical best with the ball, finishing with 1-23 from six overs.
