A YEARLY tradition continues this weekend with the Johnny Mullagh Championship Cup set to be played once again at Harrow on Sunday.
Two special guests will be at this year’s event, with former Australian Test captains, Steve Waugh and Graham Yallop, set to join the festivities.
The schedule once again includes a junior game as a prelude to the Johnny Mullagh Championship game between Mullagh and Glenelg in the afternoon.
Harrow Discovery Centre manager, Josie Sangster said
“There is the cricket bat bloke coming to make some willow bats while he is here,” she said.
“Graham Yallop is going to play in the match and we are hoping he and Steve Waugh will be involved in the coin toss.”
Sangster said having someone the calibre of Waugh in attendance was a big boost for the event.
“He obviously thinks it is of significance, because he is coming and getting behind the camera lens,” she said.
“He took photos for his Spirit of Cricket: India project he did a few years ago and while he is here he will be taking photographs for his new book, Spirit of Cricket: Australia.
“But wouldn’t it be nice if Steve padded up for a couple of overs.”
An artist from Queensland will be there and the 2022 Mullagh Medal will be on display as well, setting up a big weekend of activities, which also include fishing and bird tours.
