DUNKELD cricketer, Vincent Huf, continues his journey along the cricket pathway with selection in the Victoria Country squad for the Australian Under-19 Championships to be held next month.
This is the second straight year he has earnt selection in this squad after gaining the nod for the last carnival, in Mackay back in April.
The talented 18-year-old has been earmarked by Cricket Australia from a young age, as he has developed into a fast bowler who is expected to take the new ball during the carnival.
“Looking at the players chosen alongside me, I think that my role will be that of a new ball bowler who bats in the lower order,” Huf said.
That’s not to say that his batting is not up to standard, it’s just that the top and middle order players are so strong with the willow in hand that his main role will be with the ball.
It has been an interrupted preparation for the season for the talented sportsman, after he injured his thumb playing hockey that saw him in a cast for nearly seven weeks, when he should have been enjoying a pre-season with his Geelong teammates.
“I injured the thumb playing hockey and it put me behind where I wanted to be with my pre-season, but now that it’s fully healed, I’ve been able to build into the summer with both my bowling and my fitness,” he said.
“With there being no cricket yet for the season, it has been a help to me, as I have been able to build towards getting some overs into my body.
“Of course, nothing compares to being able to bowl in a match no matter how much training we do, as the intensity levels are so much different.
“I have been taking part in the Cricket Victoria pace bowling programme over the winter months at the CitiPower Centre at Junction Oval, and that has taught me so much about bowling and my own bowling in particular.”
The last time his bowling speed was clocked under the radar gun was back in Mackay and he registered 130km which will only get quicker as the youngster continues to develop.
The national championships take place in Adelaide from 14-22 December 2022.
