CRICKET Victoria announced the Region 2 Western Waves Under-15 Girls team to play in its annual Youth Premier League (YPL) in January, with four locals selected to represent the region.
The carnival will be played in Albury from January 9 and will pit the very best female players from across Victoria against each other for a week of high intensity matches.
Two Hamilton and District Women’s Cricket Association (HDWCA) clubs will be celebrating after each had two players selected from among their ranks.
Tarrington’s Alicia Eats and Eloise Millard are the toast of the club after strong performances at the selection trials saw each gain entry to a strong team, while Grampians is also boasting two player selections with Grace Potter and Lucy Fraser getting the nod from the selectors too.
As a strong batter, Eats is expected to bat in the top order and she also has the bonus of her bowling, that poses problems for all who her bat against her.
Millard is a very patient batter who doesn't give her wicket away easily.
She is an old-fashioned anchor-type of player who likes to wear the opposition attack down, allowing the stroke players to score freely from tiring bowlers.
She was the leading wicket taker for the Hamilton Under-14 team at the Western Victoria Girls Shield carnival in January, where she returned a best of 3/3.
At only 13 years of age, Potter will be a member of this team for quite a while.
She missed out on the shield carnival in January because the whole family had COVID, but she played all year for Grampians in the local women’s A grade competition and represented Hamilton against Warrnambool in the senior women’s team.
She can be expected to take the new ball in this team and she no doubt will be leading the attack for several years to come.
Fraser is a fine player who can turn her hand to batting, bowling and wicketkeeping.
She top-scored for the carnival in January for the Hamilton Under-14 team and obviously showed similar form at the recent trials held here in Hamilton last month, catching the eye of the selectors.
