HAMILTON North has posted a victory in its first ever Hamilton and District Cricket Association T20 match, as it kept Tahara in check at Mitchell Park on Friday evening.
Eli Crutch (Hamilton North) won the toss and elected to put runs on the board, and he sent Darren Groves and Sam Groves to the wicket with instructions to play their shots.
The father-son duo followed instructions to the letter, as they took the long handle to the rusty Bluecaps attack by smashing 65 from the first six overs before Sam Groves was caught for 15.
Darren Groves carried on reaching the magical three-figures and finished unbowed with 108-not-out next to his name from only 56 balls, as he peppered the fence on six times and cleared it a further seven.
In reply, the Bluecaps line-up struggled with only Brad Gauci (34) making runs in the top six, while the top score for the team was number 10, Jack Goodman, who came in and sent the ball to and over the fence in an unbeaten knock of 42 from only 13 balls.
Nick Ciccone was the best of the Hammers bowlers with 3-17 from his four-over spell, as Hamilton North should have won by far more than it did after having Tahara 9-105 before Goodman went wham.
Hamilton North progresses to play last season’s winner, College, this week while Tahara was eliminated from the T20 competition.
