LOCAL talents, Harry Austin (College), George Huf (College), and Eddie McShane (Grampians) were in action this week, representing the Western Waves in the Under-16 Male Youth Premier League (YPL) cricket.
Despite winning just one game this week, the local boys gained a lot of experience playing against some of the very best cricketers across the state across four grounds here in Hamilton.
In Monday’s first game of the week, the Waves played the Falcons with Austin (19) opening the batting, while Huf (nine) came in at first drop, McShane managed 10-not-out down the order to get the team to 190, but they fell five runs short – this was the best all-round game from the local boys.
Following this game, Austin had a couple slim games in the T20s, scoring two more runs for the week, Huf was given a crack at the opening role in one of the T20s but couldn’t capitalise and was dismissed for five.
McShane was solid again in the final game on Thursday, making another 10-not-out to cap off a solid week for himself, getting a couple of double figure scores.
The waves finished their YPL campaign in seventh position in the Renegades League, but will take plenty of positives out of a few narrow losses.
