MACARTHUR maintained its unbeaten start to the season, accounting for D grade reigning premier, Tahara, at home on Saturday.
The Demons added Lachie Nield and Jack Wortley, thanks to the club’s A grade bye, with Matt Timms also having an impact.
The Blue Caps won the toss and elected to bowl first, and when Darcy Jones was dismissed for one, it brought Timms to the crease.
A 79-run second-wicket partnership between Ian Brilley and Timms was finally broken when Brandon Disson had Brilley trapped in front of his stumps for 35.
Timms went on to make 85, guiding the home side to 7-162 after 40 overs.
Cameron Pepper finished with 2-29 from his eight overs.
Tahara had plenty of batsmen who got starts, but Harry Goodman’s 36 was the best, as Macarthur bowled the visitors out in the final over for 137.
Bingham Jarrett grabbed three wickets for the Demons.
Grampians d. Tarrington
THE Pumas travelled to Tiger territory and claimed victory to stay within a game of the top four.
Oliver Fenwick opened up and got to 45 before being dismissed, while Angus Frost hit an unbeaten 51 to help the visitors to 4-132 at the chance of innings.
Ryan Hilsdon grabbed three wickets for the yellow and black.
It was tough going in the run chase, with six being the top-score, as the home side was bowled out for 42.
Shaun Peters, Hayden Phillips, Brendon Paterson and Oscar Templeton all finished with two wickets each.
Coleraine d. Pigeon Ponds
PIGEON Ponds travelled south to Turnbull Street Recreation Reserve to take on Coleraine.
The visitors won the toss and batted first, but it didn’t take long for the first breakthrough, with Alexander Hodgson back in the sheds without scoring.
It was a sign of things to come though, as Ponds were eventually bowled out in the 12th over for 35.
Jack Dwyer was the hero with the ball, claiming a hat-trick to finish with figures of 3-2 from his one over.
Coleraine had plenty of contributors with the bat during the run chase, highlighted by an unbeaten 51 from Karl Dwyer to see his team to 8-208 from 40 overs.
Andrew Colgan was the standout Ponds bowler with 3-40.
College d. Hamilton North
COLLEGE hosted Hamilton North at JLC Young Oval and bowled first after winning the toss.
Nick Ciccone was the lone hand at the top of the Hammers’ batting order, scoring 38, but nobody else got to double figures with the visitors routed for 60 inside 20 overs.
Martin Clark finished with 5-17 from his eight overs, before strapping the pads on and anchoring the Eagles’ run chase with 51-retired.
Ned Hintum chipped in with 30-retired, as College closed its innings at 7-202.
Ciccone and Alex Jacobson claimed two wickets each.
Byaduk d. Tarrington Tigers
THE Ducks were at home and notched up a second win of the season, hosting Tarrington Tigers at Christie Oval.
The Tigers won the toss and bowled first, but Cameron Christie and Paul Donoghue got the home team off to the ideal start, putting on 36 runs before the latter had his stumps rattled by Will Bester for 27.
Christie pushed on, getting to 61 and guiding the team to 5-124 after 40 overs.
Craig Jackson and Bester each finished with two wickets.
Roger Rook led from the front in the run chase, putting up 51, alongside Craig Nesbitt (20) and Chris Willox (11), but it wasn’t enough, as the Tigers were all out for 102 inside 27 overs.
St Andrew’s d. Hamilton
THE Drews have jumped to top spot after a win against Hamilton at PP3.
Blues skipper, Nick O’Brien, won the toss and he threw the new ball to Lachie Walker and Jack Brody.
The home side got off to a fast start, with Craig Dimond and Hammish Shipcott putting on 123 runs before miscommunication saw Hamilton capitalise and run out Shipcott for 40.
Dimond pushed on to 105-retired, while a late innings cameo of 25 from John Hockey saw the home side post 2-263.
Walker grabbed the other wicket for the visitors.
Hamilton’s run chase started slowly, as O’Brien was first to fall with the score on 21, before Kaeden Murphy (19) and Walker combined for a 35-run stand.
Walker eventually fell soon after for 42 with Hamilton eventually all out for 129.
Shipcott finished with three wickets.
