HAMILTON and District Cricket Association (HDCA) match committee members had to call off all senior cricket on the weekend, as Mother Nature caused the cancelation of the round with up to 25mm of rain drenching parts of the district.
The La Nina weather pattern that has dominated the nation for the last three years, has seen the cancelation of eight days play (from a maximum 21 available days) for the 2022-23 summer.
This is by far the wettest season in living memory with many an old player not being able to recall a season so affected by the weather.
With the wash out, the last round in the A grade competition becomes a 45-over per side one-day match, while the lower grades will enter their last round of the home and away season with teams desperate to reach finals.
In the Under-14 competition matches, play was able to start before the rain hit with only a handful of overs delivered in each match.
As these games started, it means that they cannot be played as 1-day matches this Saturday and those teams that are currently batting are entitled to receive the remainder of their allotted 48 overs before the opposition gets to bat for the remainder of the time available until stumps is drawn at 11.45am.
Not only was play on Saturday washed out, but also the Festival of Cricket representative matches drawn for Sunday were unable to be staged due to wet wickets.
The only match played in Hamilton was an Over-60s game between Hamilton and Victoria Country at Mitchell Park on the hard wicket, with Hamilton 7-165 going down after Victoria Country replied with 7-169.
