MACARTHUR has capped off its unbeaten HDCA season with a comprehensive 78-run win against Tahara at Kennedy Oval on Saturday.
The Demons won the toss and did not hesitate in batting first, with Ian Brilley and Riley Dark opening the innings against Tahara new ball bowlers, Fletcher Wheeler and Alexander McAdam.
Macarthur raced to 67 before Dark was the first to fall for 29, with Brilley following soon after for 31.
Matt Timms was positive at the crease, but Brandon Disson got the key wicket for 28.
Captain, Bingham Jarrett, anchored the innings late with 38-not-out to help the team to 4-171 after 40 overs.
Disson was the only multiple wicket taker with two for the Bluecaps.
Tahara’s run chase was tough going, with Damien Hogan’s 43 the only contribution above seven in the top nine batsmen.
The Bluecaps were eventually bowled out for 93 in 24 overs to see Macarthur claim a comfortable victory.
Timms was the destroyer with the ball, finishing with 6-13 from his eight overs to be named Player of the Match.
Jarrett said he was nervous at the innings break, but credited the bowlers for their efforts in setting up the win.
“I don’t know that we had quite enough on the board, but I think Red (Matt Timms) coming on and taking most of their big wickets helped us,” he said.
“It was pretty handy this year, for everyone to put their hand up this year, it has been great to get here.
“At the start of the day, I thought we wanted 250 and if we got to 200 then I’d be sort of happy, but we had to bowl well and everyone who came on to bowl did their job and everyone who batted did the best they could.
“We thought they would be really hard to beat, they are probably a side very similar to us.”
