Cricket legend set for girls clinic

AUSTRALIAN cricket legend and Sport Australia Hall of Fame member, Karen Rolton, will visit Hamilton for a girls cricket clinic next month.

The clinic will be hosted by Tarrington Cricket Club and is open to all girls aged 10-17 at the Western Country Regional Cricket Hub.

The chance for youngsters to learn from an ICC Hall of Famer comes after the club received a grant from the Victorian Government’s Change Our Game community activation grants program, with the September 10 event to put girls through their paces ahead of the start of the upcoming season which gets underway in October.

With Hamilton and District Cricket Association’s Western Victoria Girls Shield in January, it gives all locals a chance to hone their skills under the watchful eyes of Rolton and the other coaches at the clinic.

Tarrington Cricket Club president Rohan Tonissen said he was excited to see players from as many clubs as possible in attendance for the session.

“It was wonderful to receive this funding and provide this opportunity to all girls in the region and hopefully spark more interest in playing cricket this season,” he said.

“We aren’t fussed which club they want to play for, in fact, the more teams there are the stronger the girl’s competition will be.”

Local player, Xar Christie-Hill, is excited for the opportunity to learn from one of the country’s greatest female cricketers.

“It will be great to hear from her and learn some new skills during the clinic,” she said.

The clinic will run from 9am-2.30pm with lunch provided, with a $10 cost per person. Visit the Tarrington Cricket Club’s Facebook page for more information and to register for the clinic.
