BYADUK has started the Hamilton and District Women’s Cricket Association 2023-24 season with victory against Tarrington at Mitchell Park on Friday evening.
The game was moved to Mitchell Park from a wet Christie Oval, and Byaduk as host bowled first after Tarrington won the toss and elected to bat first.
Ros Thatcher and Katlyn Millard were miserly with the new ball, as each only gave up five runs per over, as Tarrington struggled to get going with the bat.
Eloise Millard finished with 33-not-out after opening the batting, but she had assistance from Emillie Tonissen (11) and Ella Bester (10-not-out) as the score stood at 2-74 after their 16 overs with Thatcher (1-10) and Xar Christie-Hill (1-2) being the wicket takers.
In reply, Byaduk looked to Katelyn Millard (24) and Emily Huglin (26) to guide the side to the target, as the Ducks finished with 2-89.
Tarrington needs to work on its bowling line, gifting Byaduk 26 runs in wides and no balls which boosted the host’s tally.
Macarthur d. Hamilton
AFTER winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Demons were miserly with the ball, as none of the bowlers allowed double figures to be taken from their bowling.
Hamilton finished its 16-over innings with 6-49 on the board, as only Casey Walker (18) managed double figures, with Nikayla Purcell (3-8) and Leah Drendel (2-5) being the best of the Macarthur attack.
Laura Addinsall was circumspect in making 30-not-out from 42 balls with two boundaries, but she did steer the side to victory as the Demons replied with 0-72 to easily claim victory.
Grampians dw Pigeon Ponds
A COMBINATION of bad light and scoring problems meant that Grampians and Pigeon Ponds couldn’t complete the game at Dunkeld Hardwicket, as each claimed four points for a draw.
Pigeon Ponds has been strengthened with the recruitment of Claire Widdicombe and Caeleigh Humphries from the former Casterton District team that had to fold due to a lack on numbers.
Ponds won the toss and elected to send Grampians into bat, but the Pumas were more than up to the task, finishing with 0-124 from its 16 overs.
Grace Potter (40-retired-not-out) and Matilda Potter (37-retired-not-out) added 70 for the first wicket before they were both forced to retire not out.
In reply, Ponds managed to score 1-69 from the 12 overs they batted for before bad light curtailed the game with Widdecombe not out on 24 and Humphries unbeaten on 14.
