HDCA T20 semi-finalists locked in

THE Hamilton and District Cricket Association Twenty20 competition continues on Thursday night with St Andrew’s and Casterton District playing out a thriller which went down to the last ball.

The Maroons won the toss at PP1 and elected to bowl first, as James Guthrig was the hero of the Drews’ innings with 84 from 54 balls, complemented by 43-not-out from Kane Taylor and 36 from 18 balls by Taine Morris, as the home side finished on 3-196.

Casterton District’s run chase was paced perfectly, with Kaden Humphries making the most of being dropped four times to score 56 runs from 38 balls, while Connor Kelly added 42-not-out from 21 balls to see scores level with one ball remaining, as Aiden Sutherland looked for a dot ball but conceded a wide to see the visitors win by three wickets.

Grampians d College

THE Eagles won the toss and batted first at PP3, with neither opener able to reach double figures.

It was smart bowling by the Pumas which kept the run rate down, before Adrian Burn looked to put the foot down, getting to 31 before holding out to Josh Gordon at point.

Hamish Bailey’s unbeaten 25 from 10 balls helped the team to 8-131, which the Pumas were able to chase down with more than an over to spare, thanks to 75-not-out from Will Collins.

Burn finished with 3-13 from four overs.

Pigeon Ponds d Hamilton

THE Blues elected to chase at Kennedy Oval with 35 from 20 balls from opener, Michael Close, and an unbeaten 47 from Lachlan Craig guiding Pigeon Ponds to 6-192 after 20 overs.

Riley Casey and Brett Ezard each claimed two wickets for Hamilton.

The Blues’ run chase started slowly, with Xavier Stevens’ 24 the best of the top eight, with Caleb Millard smashing an unbeaten 44 from 24 balls late in the innings, but it was not enough, with Hamilton finishing its 20 overs on 8-159.

Macarthur d Hamilton North

THE last game of the night saw the first centurion with Kyle Smitten blasting the Demons to victory at Macarthur Recreation Reserve.

The home side batted first and slumped to 3-49, before Smitten (108-not-out) and Ollie Wortley (59-not-out) combined to put on 167 runs, guiding the team to 3-216.

The Hammers’ chase was tough going with only Robert Jacobson (34) and Sam Groves (22) scoring more than 18, as the team was restricted to 8-102 at stumps.

Lachie Nield grabbed 3-28 for the winners.
