Field of dreams for Lachie

FORMER Hamilton and District Cricket Association (HDCA) P.F. Christie Medallist, Lachie Field, achieved one of his major goals in his cricket career on Saturday, notching up his maiden Premier Cricket First XI century for Geelong.

The Grampians Cricket Club alumni came to the wicket with his side in trouble at 3-50 against Greenvale Kangaroos at Greenvale, joining Josh Larkin, in the middle.

Together the pair weathered the Kangaroos attack and began to take control as they built their partnership, but boundaries were hard to come by as they ran between the wickets with great purpose.

Field carried on after Larkin fell and the all-rounder was finally dismissed for a brilliant 105 (from 126 balls with six boundaries).

The former Puma said it was an unreal feeling to reach triple figures.

“Absolutely stoked to get my first ‘Ones’ hundred, and also very grateful for all of the support from everyone back here,” Field said.

“I was quite nervous before going out to bat, but once I met my mate Josh Larkin in the middle, it started to get a bit easier and just adapting to the conditions at 3-50 was vital in ensuring we put a big total on the board.

“Overall, the wicket played quite true for both teams, but the bowlers who bowled hard into the wicket, gained a bit more assistance, as there was quite a bit of moisture underneath the surface, yet it was hard on top.

“Spin played a big part for both sides, especially from our boys with seven of our 10 wickets taken with spin.”

Field joins the list of former HDCA players who have scored centuries in the Premier Firsts competition, including Robert Templeton (St Andrew’s), Solomon Mire, and Angus Boyd (both College).

To add to the success of the Field family on the weekend, Jess Field (captain of the Geelong Premier First XI women’s team) led the Cats to victory with a 59-ball unbeaten 60 knock against Ringwood.
