PENSHURST has claimed local bragging rights after defeating Hawkesdale-Macarthur by 94 points in the Mininera and District Football League on Saturday.
Both teams went into the round two clash without a win and it was the visitors who got the jump, kicking out to a 21-point lead at the first break; it could have been more with Penshurst kicking nine behinds.
The Eagles’ efficiency kept them in the game at half time, kicking five goals straight to Penshurst’s 8.14 to trail by 32 points.
A five goals to one third quarter put the result beyond doubt, as Penshurst went on to notch up its first win of the season, 19.24 (138) to 7.2 (44).
Henry Bensch and Kane Uebergang kicked four goals each for the Bombers, while Andrew McCartney was the main threat up forward for Hawkesdale-Macarthur with two.
Ollie Wortley impressed for the Eagles, while Nathan Rentsch was best on ground for Penshurst.
Glenthompson-Dunkeld d. Wickliffe-Lake Bolac
THE Rams got on the winners list with a 25-point win against the Magpies at Dunkeld Recreation Reserve.
It was an arm wrestle early, as both teams tried to grab the momentum, but the home side eventually edged clear and went into quarter time leading by 14 points.
The home side controlled the contest and went on to win, 11.8 (74) to 7.7 (49).
Chris McLeod booted three goals for the winners, while Andrew Lowe was named the Rams’ best.
Jake Smith kicked two majors for the Magpies, while Lewis Brice was named the team’s standout.
Woorndoo-Mortlake d. Caramut
THE Tigers bounced back from a round one loss to demolish the Swans by 192 points at Caramut Recreation Reserve.
Woorndoo-Mortlake kicked 11 first-quarter goals and had 18 by half time, as the home team had no answer to match the Tigers’ scoreboard impact.
Caramut kicked two second half goals, as the Swans went down, 5.2 (32) to 34.20 (224).
Jesse Horan kicked six for the yellow and black, while William Paulin was named the team’s standout player.
Matthew Petherick was Caramut’s only multiple goal kicker with three, with Adam Lehmann claiming the Swans’ best on ground.
Tatyoon d. Great Western
TATYOON has inflicted another bit defeat on Great Western, as the Hawks won by 192 points at the Lions’ home ground.
The Hawks had 11 scoring shots to three in the first quarter, but inaccuracy kept the margin to 28 points.
An 11-goal final term led to a 33.20 (218) to 4.2 (26) win for the visitors.
Ben Clay kicked 11 for the winners, while Kieran Collins was the Hawks’ best.
Renn Lovitt was named Great Western’s best on ground, with Jeremy Cronin kicking two majors.
Lismore-Derrinallum d. Moyston-Willaura
THE Demons look to be the team to beat after smashing SMW Rovers by 255 points at Derrinallum to maintain their perfect start to the season.
A nine-goal opening term set up the win with the Bulldogs kept to just 1.2 (8) while the home side piled on 38.35 (263).
Riley Browne and Michael Lockyer kicked 11 goals each for the winners, while Jack Atkins was the Demons’ standout.
Riley Thomas kicked the Pumas’ only goal, while Samual Pilgrim was named the team’s best.
Ararat Eagles d. SMW Rovers
THE Ararat Eagles accounted for the Bulldogs by 73 points at Alexandra Oval in the final game of the round.
The Bulldogs matched Ararat in the first term before the home side kicked away and went on to win, 14.17 (101) to 4.4 (28).
Tom Taurau kicked four goals for Ararat, while Ben Robertson was named the team’s best.
Darcy Osborne was the Bulldogs’ best on ground.
