Bombers flying high after win against Rams

PENSHURST has claimed local bragging rights over Glenthompson-Dunkeld with a five-point win on Saturday.

The Bombers had home ground advantage for the Mininera and District Football League round four clash, with both teams managing just one goal in the opening term.

The visitors kicked two goals to one in the second term to go into half time leading by five points, but both teams had plenty of improvement left in them.

A five-goal third quarter got the home side back in the contest, giving the Bombers a two-point lead at the final change, before going on to win, 10.7 (67) to 8.14 (62).

Henry Bensch finished with three goals for the winners, while Tim McGregor and Daniel Rentsch each chipped in with two majors for the home side, with Rentsch named the Bombers’ best.

Jesse Overall topped the Rams’ goals list with three, while Tim Kealy was the team’s standout.

HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR’S tough season continued, travelling down to Woorndoo to take on the Tigers and returning empty handed.

An eight-goal opening quarter set up the home side’s win, with the Eagles unable to reel in the deficit to go down, 4.8 (32) to 25.31 (181).

Chris Moutray was the Eagles’ main forward target, kicking two majors, while Ollie Wortley was named the team’s best on ground.

Jordan Buckley finished with eight goals for the Tigers, with Sam Gervasoni named best on ground for the winners.

CARAMUT put up a brave fight at Mininera, but eventually went down to SMW Rovers by 139 points.

The Swans were held scoreless in the opening term, while the Bulldogs kicked 8.8 to gain control of the contest and were never challenged from that point in the 26.21 (177) to 5.8 (38) victory.

Thomas Thewlis kicked six goals for the winners and was named the team’s standout.

Josh Campbell and Matthew Petherick each kicked two majors for the visitors, with Jacob Lacy named the Swans’ best player.

LISMORE-DERRINALLUM put up a brave fight against Ararat Eagles at Derrinallum, but eventually went down by 28 points.

A 20-point half time lead eventually led to a 13.12 (90) to 9.8 (62) win for the visitors.

Brent Bulger kicked five goals for the winners, while Naish McRoberts was Ararat’s best.

Riley Browne and Michael Lockyer finished with two majors each for the Demons with Will Langley the home side’s best.

TATYOON dispatched of Wickliffe-Lake Bolac, collecting a 98-point win at home.

The Magpies were outclassed from the start, as the Hawks kicked six goals to lead by 41 points at the first break, before extending the scoreboard advantage grew, winning 20.17 (137) to 6.3 (39) at the final siren.

Ben Clay continued his strong form with four goals for the winners, while William Henderson was the Hawks’ best.

Sean Trevaskis and Samuel McKew kicked two each for the black and white, with the latter named the team’s standout.

GREAT Western collected its first win of the season, holding off Moyston-Willaura, 18.10 (118) to 13.15 (93) at Willaura.

The two teams sat in the bottom three and it was the Lions who kicked seven goals to four in the first term to set the tempo of the game.

Will Clark and Sam Cocks kicked three goals each for the visitors, while William Dulla was the Lions’ standout.

Alex Close finished with four majors for the Pumas, with Bowdyn Webster-Bamster the team’s best on ground.
