Bombers remain in top five contention

PENSHURST sits just percentage out of the Mininera and District Football League top five after the Bombers thumped the Swans by 151 points at Caramut on Saturday.

The visitors got off to a fast start, kicking five goals from 13 scoring shots, while the home side struggled to get the ball forward and managed just a single behind in the opening quarter.

Penshurst’s midfield continued to dominate in the contest with the game played largely in the Bombers’ forward half, with the Swans going into half time with just one goal to their name and trailing by 68 points.

The second half was much the same, as the home side struggled to get the game played on its terms with the Bombers determined to push on and increase the margin.

Caramut’s intensity was no much for the Bombers, as the Swans conceded seven goals to go into the final break trailing by 113 points.

With the result already known, the Swans played to reduce the margin and build confidence for next week, but the Bombers piled on another six goals to record a comfortable 23.30 (168) to 2.5 (17) victory.

Henry Bensch continued his good form in front of goals, kicking five majors, while Jacob Mibus finished the game with four.

Nathan Rentsch was named the Bombers’ best on ground, ahead of Sam Weston and Oscar Linke.

Joe Kenna kicked both Caramut’s goals with Jacob Lacy named the Swans’ standout.

Other games

GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD got a nice percentage boost following a 220-point win against Moyston-Willaura on Saturday.

The Rams had 19 scoring shots in the first quarter at Dunkeld, kicking nine goals to lead by 58 points, but it could have been so much more with 10 behinds also recorded.

Moyston-Willaura struggled to reel in the Rams, conceding a further eight goals to go into half time trailing by 112 points.

The margin was pushed out in the second half with the home side winning, 34.28 (232) to 2.0 (12).

The Rams had 15 goal kickers, headed by Tyler Fehsler who kicked six and Chris McLeod with five.

Tyler Staude was named Glenthompson-Dunkeld’s best player.

WICKLIFFE-LAKE BOLAC has moved to within striking distance of the top five after a 51-point win against SMW Rovers on Saturday.

The Magpies had home ground advantage but was unable to make strong use of it early on with both teams tied at 3.3 (21) at quarter time.

A seven-goal second term saw the black and white kick clear on the scoreboard and went into half time with a 38-point lead.

The Bulldogs weren’t able to close the gap in the second half, going down 9.9 (63) to 17.12 (114).

Lachlan Boseley kicked five goals for the Magpies, while Jake Fleming bagged two for the visitors.

LISMORE-DERRINALLUM continued Great Western’s lacklustre season, with the Demons travelling north and returning with a 148-point victory.

A six-goal opening term set up the win, with the Lions kicking just two first half goals to go into the main break trailing by 77 points.

The goals continued to flow for the visitors in the second half, kicking 13 to three to win, 26.24 (180) to 5.2 (32).

Riley Browne kicked seven goals to top the Demons’ tally, while Matthew Bacon and Will Langley each kicked three majors.

Tristan Dixon was the main threat up forward for Great Western, finishing with four goals.
