Kangaroos are hot favourites

THE Hamilton Kangaroos will travel to Gardens Oval as hot favourites to win their Hampden Football Netball League round nine senior football and Open netball contests tomorrow.

The Hamilton Kangaroos netball team will be out to keep their winning streak going tomorrow when they take on Port Fairy in Hampden Football Netball League Open round nine.

The Kangaroos are building in recent weeks, putting up competitive performances against Cobden and South Warrnambool, while accounting for Terang-Mortlake and Camperdown.

A win today would push the Roos up to within striking distance of the top five at the halfway point of the season.

Hamilton coach, Nat O’Dea said another game away from Melville Oval wouldn’t bother the squad.

“A second week in a row away rewards us with two home games to finish the season,” she said.

“We know our fate now, every game we must get some points and the girls will be primed and pumped.

“I believe all the nine girls will be raring to go.”

While the Seagulls are rebuilding their Open team and have a mix of youth and experience, the Kangaroos won’t be taking the home side lightly.

Adding a different dynamic is the chance for O’Dea to coach against one of her friends for the first time in the Hampden league.

“Port Fairy is a tricky one, I am coaching against one of my mates in Renae Taylor, so it will be a bit tricky, but it will be nice to know them for a change,” she said.

“It will be a little different for me, I might be a bit more relaxed actually.

“I want to explore combinations and opportunities and utilise the bench a bit more against Port Fairy.

“A couple of girls haven’t had the opportunity to play together through the midcourt, Kellie and Leesa haven’t played together and we are going into round nine.

“We know we are a very fit side and we know we can match it with the best.”

While the Kangaroos are benefitting from having the squad fit and healthy, the blue and white are expected to welcome back Kellie Sommerville and Leesa Iredell after the pair missed last week’s game against the Magpies.

O’Dea said it was important to keep the momentum going and put in another strong performance against Port Fairy ahead of a return clash against Koroit the week after.

“We will definitely be trying to flex our muscles and play smart netball, and hopefully that can get out on court (today),” she said.

“I believe they are quite young, but you can’t underestimate anyone.

“Every game is tough and there is no easy game.”

The Hamilton Kangaroos football team will also go in as heavy favourites to claim their fifth win of the season when they face Port Fairy at Gardens Oval today.

The blue and white have been building and go into the game full of confidence after defeating Camperdown at Leura Oval last week.

The Seagulls have struggled to play out four quarters this season with the team rebuilding and fielding a young side most weeks.

If Hamilton can win this afternoon, it will be the first time the Kangaroos have reached the halfway point of the season ahead of the ledger.

With a 5-4 record on offer, the visitors will be hoping they can claim the win.

For the Seagulls, it is about putting a four-quarter performance and staying with the Kangaroos throughout the contest.

A win at home would boost morale with the home side winless to date.
