TYRENDARRA are positioning themselves for a strong run into finals after a dominant win against Stawell on Sunday in round 10 of the Western Victoria Female Football League.
The 11.9 (75) to 1.2 (8) victory was one of the side’s best displays yet with plenty of linking passages of play showing an improved brand of football.
It was a consistent four quarters for the Darras who posted at least two goals each term.
Tyrendarra’s first quarter was their most damaging, posting four goals with the first coming off the boot of Kate Gleeson who continued to be lethal in front of the posts slotting four for the match.
The Darras’ backline continued to shut down Stawell’s impact up forward allowing just two points before the final term.
Kaylee Whitfield was instrumental with her ability to rebound off the back half setting up plenty of Tyrendarra’s play in the forward line.
Stawell managed to find some impressive run down the ground in the last quarter with Vanilla Ika leading the charge but only posted one goal to close out the game.
Whitfield earned best on ground for the Darras while Gleeson, Nicola Clark, Andrea Smith, Jess Sandow, Ash Boyer and Amy Meulendyks were also key contributors on the day.
Tough day for Tigers
Portland had a tough match up in the under-18 competition going down to Horsham, 12.11 (83) to 2.2 (14).
The Tigers struggled to combat Horsham’s intensity in the contest and skill down the ground with the visitors coming out firing in the first quarter.
Hannah Jones was awarded best on ground for her performance while Maddison Cotten, Skyla Pett, Haylee Blurton, Airlie Aldridge and Chloe Reynolds were also named in the best.
The loss leaves the Tigers in third spot on the ladder followed closely by Warrnambool with both sides on 12 points.
