THE Kangaroos netball team go into yet another clash against a top five team knowing a win would go a long way to closing the gap on the ladder.
The Roos travel to Reid Oval to take on fourth-placed Warrnambool tomorrow with a win set to move the Hamilton team into sixth position if the Portland drop its game to the Bombers at Cobden.
Hamilton’s form against top five teams in the past four or five games has been strong and if they can maintain it, it will go a long way to notching up the win.
Kangaroos coach, Nat O’Dea, will be hoping the team’s chemistry can continue to build, but the Blues will be no easy pushover.
The Blues won the earlier season encounter by seven goals, but the Kangaroos will have a much stronger team available for this afternoon’s clash.
Leesa Iredell is inching closer to playing a full game after a calf complaint, playing three quarters last week, while Kellie Sommerville is also closer to a return to the court, giving O’Dea maximum options for on-court combinations.
Amy Wormald was one of the standouts for Warrnambool in the round two game, and Hamilton will have learnt plenty and should go into the game confident of collecting the victory at Reid Oval.
Hamilton Kangaroos football team are set to enter round 11 of the HFNL, knowing victory against Warrnambool will see them finish the round in the top five.
Both teams go into the Reid Oval match with losing form, as the Kangaroos failed against Koroit and the Blues fell to Portland, and despite the Kangaroos being on the road it must be remembered it won away from home only 14 days ago.
Before the result last weekend, the Kangaroos had registered three consecutive wins to catch Warrnambool on the ladder, but Hamilton’s percentage is far below what is expected of a team that sits 5-5 after 10 rounds.
Brady Hicks has led from the front as all good skippers do, and his form across the last month of football has been first class, repelling the opposition attacking raids across the Roos’ backline.
Along with Hicks, the team has been well served by Cameron Pither, Charles Murrie, Hamish Cook and Luke Barnes in recent weeks, but players cannot sit back and expect these men to continue to carry the load and they must stand and be counted today if the Roos are going to gain a valuable win away from home.
Victory today for Hamilton would mean a finals place moves within reach, setting up an early elimination final for both teams.
