Roos ready for the weekend

THE Hamilton Kangaroos will be looking for a strong performance when they travel to Terang to take on the Bloods in Hampden Football Netball League action.

The Roos football team will be looking to record a much-needed victory against Terang-Mortlake when they travel to Terang today.

The Kangaroos currently sit two wins out of the top five, but with Cobden and Warrnambool battling against Koroit and South Warrnambool, the Roos can keep the teams higher on the ladder honest with victory today.

The blue and white lost to North Warrnambool Eagles last round by 80 points and will need to put that result behind them if they are going to collect the points.

Brady Hicks, Charles Murrie, Bailey Mason, Cameron Whyte, Deacon White and Angus Noske were the best of a well beaten team last week, but the players’ form has been consistent no matter the team wins or loses, and they can be counted upon to turn up today.

In the last meeting between these two teams back in round five at Melville Oval, Hamilton got the points with a hard-fought six-point victory, so close are these teams matched.

To defeat the Bloods, the Roos will have to play four-quarter football and make the most of their chances in front of goal, with the Bloods determined to impress at home.

Meanwhile, the Kangaroos netball team will be looking to get back on the Hampden Football Netball League Open netball winners list when they travel to Terang to take on the Bloods today.

It will be the Roos’ third away game in four rounds, with the blue and white hopeful of repeating their strong performance to claim another win against Terang-Mortlake.

Kangaroos coach, Nat O’Dea said they learnt a lot from the earlier season match-up and was confident of getting the points this afternoon.

“Terang-Mortlake was our first win for the year, they were a physical side,” he said.

“They had some good passages of play, a mixture of ages and experience in their side.

“We still didn't have our full side first time round, so I'm hoping to see a good solid victory.”

With finals now off the radar for the team, the group is looking towards 2023.

Emma and Kellie Sommerville have re-signed with the club for next year and a strong emphasis on skill improvement is also underway.

O’Dea said there were some specific areas the team had been working on in recent works and hoped it would lead to late-season wins.

“The past few weeks we have worked on clean possession, timing and strong passing and handling of the ball,” she said.

“(Along with) strong hands over pressure (and) capitalising on our turnovers.”

Eve Duckmanton is away, but the rest of the squad will be available, giving the Roos a strong chance of claiming victory.

With only one more away game for the season following today, a confident Hamilton side will be hoping to start the final five rounds with a big victory.
