THE Hamilton Kangaroos will travel to Cobden for their last away game of the Hampden Football Netball League season tomorrow.
In football, the Hamilton Kangaroos will seek to end a six-game HFNL losing streak when it travels to Cobden for their round 16 clash.
The Kangaroos haven’t won since round nine against Port Fairy, but in that time the Bombers have posted three wins to gain sixth place, equal with the Roos on five wins.
With only three rounds remaining in the home and away season they are looking to end the season on a high by claiming all three.
Hamilton coach, Hamish Waldron, has rotated many of the side’s youngsters back to the Under-18.5 team to freshen them up, allowing others to gain senior team experience and put their names before the selectors going forward.
Last week the Roos battled second-placed South Warrnambool all game and only went down by six goals against one of the competition’s high flyers with Andrew Pepper, Cameron Whyte, Cameron Pither, Luke Barnes, Rory Gill and Michael McMeel all in form.
For the team to claim the title of ‘best team outside the top five’, they have to win today, as they have games against two lower placed teams to finish the season which should result in victories.
In netball, the Kangaroos will seek to reverse its round seven loss to Cobden tomorrow when the two teams meet at Cobden in the Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) Open netball action.
That three-goal loss at home was a hard pill to swallow for the Roos, but the team learnt plenty about how to shoot down the second-placed Bombers and will put this knowledge into practice this afternoon.
With a win-loss record of two and two from its last four games, the Kangaroos will want to jump back on the winning bandwagon quickly, as they look to end the season with three wins from the last three rounds.
With an eye to next season, Hamilton Kangaroos coach, Nat O’Dea, will set the squad goals for the next three games which need to be met.
“Cobden got the jump on is in the first quarter last time, we gave them a nine-goal lead at quarter time,” she said.
“The girls played catch up netball and got within a goal at different points of the game.
“Cobden are a very smart, fit netball team who play a terrific brand of netball.
“Playing the top two sides in the next two weeks, our main focus is to play consistent, highly skilled and clean netball.”
The blue and white goes into the clash with all players available, giving them the best hope of returning home with the points.
