Boomers through to decider

THE Hamilton Boomers have won through to the Football Integrated Development Association (FIDA) Western Conference after a thumping 142-point win against Grampians Giants at Melville Oval on Sunday.

The Boomers got off to a fast start, holding off the Giants from the outset to eventually win, 23.16 (154) to 2.0 (12).

Tom Brody continued his impressive form, booting 10 goals for the winners, while Dylan Jenkins kicked eight goals, Darryl Trotter finished with two, while Jason Huf, Sebastian Stephens and Daniel Whennen also hit the scoreboard for the Boomers.

A small crowd of supporters enjoyed the good weather and equally good football game at Melville Oval in the last game before the finals.

The Boomers won the game convincingly in a match where players fought hard for every touch.

The highlight of the match for at least three people, was the teamwork which saw John Greengrass give up an easy goal for himself to assist Huf score his first goal in his seven seasons with the Boomers, and three days later the man in question was still smiling.

The Boomers’ best included Jenkins, Greengrass, Brody, Trotter, Jonathan Trotter, and Adam Bunworth.

Hamilton has qualified for the grand final game at South Warrnambool’s Friendly Societies Oval on August 21.

The South Warrnambool Hurricanes will have home ground advantage for the decider, with Wimmera Whippets and Grampians Giants playing in a game earlier in the day.

The grand final shapes up to be an enthralling contest with the Hurricanes proving to be the better team in the two previous encounters this season, but the Boomers will be determined to reverse the results and claim a third successive premiership.
