History beckons

HISTORY is on offer the Hamilton Kangaroos Under-18.5 players, as they face-off against Koroit in today’s Hampden Football Netball League grand final.

The team goes into the decider full of confidence, having beaten the Saints the last two times they played including the second semi-final a fortnight ago.

Roos coach, Luke Uebergang said he was embracing the build-up and backed his side to handle the occasion positively.

“We are definitely realising what we have achieved this year, It is a good achievement to make a grand final and I am not trying to mask that in any way,” he said.

“I have got confidence the boys aren’t going to be overawed by the situation,

The grand final is a massive achievement, so any time the boys can learn from it and experience it, it is only going to benefit them in the long run.”

Lachie Urquhart comes back into the side after a few weeks off with injury, with Harrison Killen making way, as the only change to the side which won its semi-final clash.

The Roos will be out to repeat their 38-point win against Koroit from two weeks ago, but Uebergang is expecting some changes from the Saints.

“We will definitely take a bit out of it, I think Koroit might do a couple of little things structurally different, but we are prepared for a lot of things,” Uebergang said.

“We definitely take confidence out of how we played and how our brand looks.

“We kicked a really big score against Warrnambool down (at Reid Oval).

“The way we want to play with our possession game, it will definitely suit the wider ground; it is just more a thing of how wet it is going to be.”

The Roos will be wary of a few Saints in particular, with Uebergang happy to go defensive at different times if required.

“Mitch Lloyd kicked five goals in the prelim final, and there is a bit of talk about Finn O’Sullivan and whether he plays or not,” the Roos coach said.

“If he does play, we are going to have to mindful we don’t get sucked into the contest, because he is quality on the outside.”

For the blue and white, Uebergang expects his two leaders to step up on the big stage.

“I reckon Zach Burgess will have a massive game, he is a real leader on the field and I know if the chips are down, he will be throwing his body round,” he said.

“I also think Hamish Cook as well, our vice-captain will be terrific for us and will be important for us up forward if he can take a few marks and convert.”

First bounce is set for 10am at Warrnambool’s Reid Oval.
