Silvester Oval lighting project gets underway

THE people of the Coleraine community have enjoyed an early Christmas present as work on the new lighting project at Silvester Oval has begun with the installation of the bases for four new floodlight towers at the venue.

As a part of the ongoing development of Silvester Oval in Coleraine, Southern Grampians Shire Council has commenced the installation of the four new light towers.

The project, which costs $420,000, includes upgrading the existing power supply and installing new 150 lux LED towers so the local football club can train at night.

Sport and Recreation Victoria has contributed $150,000 to the project, while $60,000 has come from the Coleraine Sports Ground Committee and $55,000 from the Coleraine Football Netball Club.

Southern Grampians Shire Council acting chief executive, Rory Neeson said the project was important to continue improving facilities around the region.

“Council is pleased to drive this project as part of our commitment to improving recreational facilities across the shire and promoting healthy communities,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to the state government and the community for their contributions and support.

The lights are being installed by Comtek Electrical Pty Ltd of Hamilton, and the work is expected to be finished by the end of February 2024 in time for football training.

The project will boost the prospects of Coleraine Football Netball Club, helping to make training easier during winter with better lighting.

The oval is currently closed for use until further notice.
