HAMILTON Kangaroos copped their ninth loss of the year on Saturday as they were convincingly defeated by 34 points against Camperdown in round 11 of the Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) senior football at Leura Oval.
Both sides struggled with accuracy on the day as they failed to consistently find the middle of the big sticks.
Camperdown cost themselves a big win and a greater boost in percentage as they kicked 6.18 (54) on the day, while the Kangaroos also had trouble converting majors with 2.8 (20).
The Magpies got one back on the Roos as they reversed the result from the round two clash which Hamilton won by 39 points – reflecting the improvement of the home side.
The first quarter was a bit of an arm-wrestle as both sides managed to generate some good ball movement and get some promising looks at goal.
It was Camperdown who went into quarter time with a 12 point and despite having just two more scoring shots, they controlled the game.
An inaccurate 1.6 from the Magpies in the second term left the door slightly ajar for a Kangaroo comeback but they extended the lead in the third term to go into the final break with a 32-point lead.
The last quarter was reminiscent of the first as both sides battled for ground, there were just four minor scores as the Magpies picked up their fourth win of the season.
While the visitors were only lost the clearance count 44-39, they were smashed 63-28 in the inside 50s and couldn’t get their hands on the ball (384-274 disposals).

He had eight disposals playing ruck., with 33 hit outs (10 to advantage), as well as eight tackles.

Eddie McShane and Hugh Fitzgerald made their senior debuts on the day, and both showed some positive signs.
Reserves
CAMPERDOWN helped itself to an easy 68-point win over a struggling Hamilton side in the HFNL reserves football at Leura Oval on Saturday with a second-half blitz blowing the margin out significantly, 13.7 (85) to 2.5 (17).
The Roos defeated the Magpies by 17 points when they met in round two, but the home side was determined to change that in a big way.
The blue and white seemed to go with them in the first half trailing by just 16 points at the main break, with some young talent in Angus Kissel and Will Hallam shining through.
However, nine goals to one in the second half gave the sixth placed Magpies the percentage boost they were after.
Matt Dunn and Tom Fitzgerald were the goal scorers for Hamilton while Jack Fadersen, Kyle Rhook, Hugh Douglas and Hunter Plush were also named in the best.
Under-18
THE Kangaroos made sure they continued their winning ways in the Under-18 clash against the Magpies as they put their foot down in the last quarter to win 8.6 (54) to 3.7 (25) at Leura Oval.
Hamilton won by 29 points at the final siren, which was the identical margin to their round two result as Zac Elliott and Charlie Field (three goals each) led the way at the attacking end of the ground.
The 10-1 season record says all you need to know; this junior side is one of the most formidable in the competition and will be chasing redemption after a preliminary final exit last season.
Roos’ skipper, Thomas Calvert led from the front with two goals while Archie Porter, Harlie Manson and Jack Roberts rounded out the best players on the day.
Netball
CAMPERDOWN continues to push for finals in the Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) open netball competition as they dealt with Hamilton Kangaroos comfortably to win 53-30 on Saturday.
The round 11 clash was very similar to the last time the sides met with the Magpies proving to be too strong by a similar margin once again.
The Roos welcomed back some key pillars of their structure with Emma Sommerville (from injury) and Ella Sevior (from illness) returning for the clash, but it was to no avail as they were comprehensively beaten across the court.
Camperdown maintained their lead at each of the breaks and while it was far from a terrible loss for the Kangaroos, they were no match for the home team.
It was a relatively slow start for both teams as they began to adapt to the way their opponent played with neither side displaying ultimate dominance, with the Magpies taking a 9-5 lead into the first break.
Both teams started to get going in the second term finding a bit of tempo, but it was the home side that controlled the play to get out to an eight-goal lead.
The second half was controlled by Camperdown as they proved to be too much for the youthful Hamilton outfit despite a gallant effort.
Saskia Gould was shooting well with 16 goals while the ever-reliable Clare Crawford converted on 14 goals as the pair worked in cohesion in the ring.
The Kangaroos’ young brigade performed well as Grace Cleaver, Maddox Ryan and Gould were the best players on the day.
The Roos remain winless but will continue to chase consistency and nurture their young talent in the back end of the season.

It was a game the undefeated Roos were expected to win, and they didn’t disappoint as on-court brilliance from Ruby Lang, Ellen Casey and Debbie Pither helped them claim the four points.
