SOUTHERN ROOS CLAIM BACK-TO-BACK FLAGS

HARROW-BALMORAL has claimed back-to-back premierships in the Horsham District Football Netball League after overcoming a determined Noradjuha Quantong at North Oval, Stawell 7.10.52 to 5.9.39.

On a wet and windy afternoon, Harrow-Balmoral didn’t have its way the whole game, as the two halves were completely different.

The Southern Roos came out with a strong first term with nine shots on goal for only three majors, but it held a 22-point lead at the siren.

They repeated the dose in the second quarter by adding a further three majors, but Noradjuha-Quantong found their range and posted two goals of their own as the lead stood at 27 points at the long break.

The Bombers took stock in the sheds over half time and returned to the field determined to take the game up to Harrow-Balmoral.

The tide of the game began to turn, as the Bombers took control and played some good wet weather football with the rewards coming on the scoreboard, as the team kicked the only goal of the term to reduce the margin to 22 points.

The final quarter saw the Bombers not leave anything on the field, as they continued to press the Southern Roos and momentum remained with the margin reduced to only 13 points.

Noradjuha-Quantong kicked a further two majors to only one in reply, but time ran out and Harrow-Balmoral lifted the cup again.

Nick Pekin was named best on ground and was the only multiple goal kicker in the game with three goals, but he had assistance from Peter Staude, Matt Jones, Jai Thompson, Clinton Robinson, and Josh Dawson, while the Bombers were well served by Dylan Shelley, Jayden Besford, James Hallett, Jack Vague, Dyson Parish, and Connor O’Beirne.

The victory caps off another great year for the club after coach, Jai Thompson, won the league best and fairest in the lead up to the big day.
