Mixed results for Portland’s juniors

PORTLAND’S under-14 side recorded a dominant victory in their Hampden Football League contest against South Warrnambool on Saturday.

The round 15 clashes were bought forward with Hampden’s under-16, under-14 and under-12 juniors playing on Saturday.

The young under-14 Tigers were impressive from the outset, finding plenty of the ball and sighting solid targets up forward to win 13.7 (85) to 1.3 (9).

Jesse Boyce kicked three goals in a best on ground performance for the Tigers, while Austin Lane, Kobie Morris and Brodie Lucas also had good games.

The win leaves Portland in fourth position on the ladder after five matches.

It was a closer match up in the under-16 game with Portland falling short against South Warrnambool 10.10 (70) to 7.8 (50).

It was a good performance from the ninth-placed Tigers, taking on the undefeated South Warrnambool.

South got off to a great start with a 4.4 (28) to 0.3 (3) first term, but Portland outscored the visitors seven goals to six through the final three quarters.

Shaquill McKellar was best afield for the Tigers, booting four goals.

Greater South West Junior Football League

In the only under-17 match for the weekend Coleraine recorded a massive win against Tyrendarra on Saturday, 17.17 (119) to 3.3 (21).

Coleraine sit in top spot on the ladder after an impressive season so far while Tyrendarra sits in third.

• In the under-14 match ups Hamilton Orange were too good for Hamilton Blue in their Thursday night clash.

Hamilton Orange won, 8.7 (55) to 1.0 (6).

Tyrendarra’s under-14 side hit the scoreboard well to record a 17.12 (114) to 1.1 (7) win against Coleraine on Saturday.

Heathmere was impressive against Portland Tigers securing a 10.10 (70) to 2.1 (13) win.
