HEATHMERE’S under-17 side in the Greater South West Junior Football League demonstrated their talent once more on Saturday in Heywood, coming away with a 23.14 (152) to 3.2 (20) win over Portland Tigers.
The Meres were the stronger side from the jump, taking a 115-point lead into half time, before the scoring pace slowed, with the Tigers finding three goals late through Tighe Warburton.
Samuel Fidge, Patrick McGennisken, Jack Taylor, Luke Fidge, Tomas Stockdale and Noah Johnson were best for the Meres, while Warburton, Zack Carter, Quinn Elijah, Will McIntyre, Kowen Goodwin and Ajay Sonti put in a solid shift for the Tigers.
Cavendish kept their unbeaten streak alive, taking down Tyrendarra 8.25 (73) to 3.4 (22).
The Bloods did most of their damage in the opening quarter, taking out a 42-point advantage in the first quarter, with wayward kicking seeing them kick 2.19 for the rest of the match.
Cody Glenn, Ryan Wardlaw, Nicholas Cotten, Stormy Manaia, Connor Kamp and Ned Wareham were in the victors’ best, while the Darras saw strong performances from Flynn Leonard, Luke Hannig, Kade Wilson, Jack Lipscombe, Jack Brugman and Cooper Roberts.
Under-14 mixed
Tyrendarra proved the better side against Cavendish in the earlier fixture, winning 5.11 (41) to 5.4 (34).
The Darras took the early ascendancy via a strong first quarter and were able to hold off the Bloods for the remainder of the match.
Brad Morton, Eli Lipscombe, Noah Prevett, Ethan Matley, Braxtyn Moore and Mitch Biadacz were in Tyrendarra’s best, while Leayla Pohl, Georgie Harris, Darcy Shipcott, Rhydian Reiersen, Jordie Alexander and Harvey Miller played hard for Cavendish.
Heywood was much too strong for Portland Tigers in their clash, taking out a 19.14 (128) to 0.0 (0) at Heywood.
While the Tigers were able to limit their opposition’s scoring through the second quarter, the Lions had their number for the rest of the match.
Jensen Moore, Indy Barclay, Brodie Geebung-Couzens, Lauchlon Saunders and Harry Bourke played exceptionally for Heywood, while the Tigers found strong efforts from Ducati Durbidge, Kobe Garner, Ajay Sonti, Jett Newton, Abby Jowett and Carlos Carta.
Coleraine got over the line in their clash with Branxholme-Wallacedale, taking out a 15.7 (97) to 8.4 (52) win.
The Maroons were the better side from the outset, as while the Saints hit back late (seven of their goals game in the final term) it was too little too late.
Jessy Walter, Archie Dahl, Griffen McConachy, Archie Templeton, Connor Lambert and Darcy Eats were in the Maroons’ best, while the Saints got strong performances from Zanda Ewing, Beau Brian, Dash Hogan, Harvey Jacobson, Tyler Robertson and Harry Tonissen.
