Lions take down Meres

HEYWOOD was able to take out victory in a tussle with Heathmere in the Greater South West Junior Football League’s under-14 mixed division, coming away with a 5.5 (35) to 1.6 (12) victory.

It was a very low-scoring first half, with the Lions managing one goal while the Meres failed to find the big sticks.

Heywood opened the game up in the third term, kicking four goals to nil to take a commanding lead which they did not surrender.

Ethan Smith, Jensen Moore, Archie Malseed, Harry Bourke, LJ Bell and Xander Scott were Heywood’s best, while Artie Harvey, Judd Carter, Elliot Munday, Xavier Buchanan, Jeremy Boreham and Cohan Fleming played well for the Meres.

Portland Tigers had their closest matchup of the season, but ultimately still lost to Coleraine 9.7 (61) to 3.5 (23).

The Tigers were able to keep themselves in the game for the first two quarters, before the Maroons took control in the latter stages for a comfortable victory.

Archie Templeton, Xavier Dwyer, Griffen McConachy, Darcy Eats, Jimmy Dyer and Lachlan Eats were Coleraine’s best, while Kobie Morris, Declan Botica, Jett Newton, Ajay Sonti, Ducati Durbidge and Abby Jowett played hard for Portland.

Tyrendarra easily took care of Branxholme-Wallacedale 13.17 (95) to 0.3 (3), with the Darras breaking out to a 36-point quarter time lead and never looking back from there.

Riley Malseed, Zanda Ewing, Jake Malseed, Beau Brian, Harvey Jacobson and Knox Picken did their best for the Saints, but they ultimately proved to be no match for a Darras side led by Noah Prevett, Felix Gill, Brad Morton, Eli Porter, Eli Lipscombe and Maddison Dempsey.

Under-17 boys

Heathmere proved to be far too good for the Darras in the under-17 division, coming away with a 20.15 (135) to 1.3 (9) victory at Heathmere.

The Meres kept their foot on the accelerator throughout the first half, racing to a commanding 66-point lead by the main break, and they never looked back.

Sam Shelton, Xavier Boyadjian-dinic, Beau Edwards, Kade Perkins, Noah Johnson and Tomas Stockdale played well for the victorious Meres, while Luke Hannig, Jack Brugman, Jack Lipscombe, Macauly Baker, Phoenix Stewart and Kade Wilson fought well for Tyrendarra.

Coleraine were in control throughout their matchup with Portland Tigers, taking out a 19.24 (138) to 2.2 (14) win.

Kowen Goodwin, Perry Maas-Geesteranus, Will McIntyre, Jay O'Brien, Tighe Warburton and Sooria Sonti did their best for the Tigers, but they fell short against a strong Maroons outfit led by Kaleb McKelvie, Zander Beardsell, Rylan McConachy, Tyson Sparrow, Jay Hussey and Angus Stewart.
