Mixed bag for Kangaroos

IT is finals season for some teams already with the Hamilton Kangaroos facing off in the Under-16 and Under-14 qualifying finals, while the women’s team battled it out for a spot in the Western Victoria Female Football League grand final at the weekend.

The women faced Horsham Demons at Stawell’s North Park and easily accounted for Horsham Demons, kicking three goals to nil in the opening term to eventually win, 8.5 (53) to 4.1 (25).

Mimi Chun was named the Roos’ best, while Caroline McGrath kicked three goals for the blue and white, setting up a grand final clash against South Warrnambool at Reid Oval on Sunday.

The junior teams didn’t fare as well, with the Under-16s going down to South Warrnambool by 19 points, 8.5 (53) to 10.12 (72).

Hunter Van Someren was the standout for the blue and white, while Matthew Calvert bagged four goals in the loss.

The Under-14s also lost their clash against Warrnambool, 3.7 (25) to 5.7 (37).

Angus Ewing was the Kangaroos’ best, with the team spreading the goals across individual goal kickers.

The Under-16s remain alive, and fill face Cobden in a sudden death final on Sunday at Bushfield Oval at 1pm, while the Under-14s will be hoping to keep their season alive when they face-off against South Warrnambool at 10am.
