Kangaroos fate out of their hands

THE finals fate of the Hamilton Kangaroos’ Open netball squad remains in limbo with two games still to play, following a loss to the Saints on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Roos played on a third different home court for the season, hosting Koroit at Dunkeld Recreation Reserve, after starting the season at Melville Oval and then moving to Pedrina Park when the courts were deemed unsafe.

The Roos started the game against the Saints with a stunning first term and led at the first break by three goals, but the visitors returned for the second term determined to force turnover ball and Koroit roared back into the match with a 13-goal term that gave it a one-goal lead at the long break.

By posting a second 13-goal term in the third quarter, Koroit took control of the game, and it never allowed the home side back into the contest to win, 37-45.

The loss is the third in a row for the blue and white, ahead of the last two games are against teams lower on the ladder.

The Kangaroos need to win both their remaining games and have results in other games go their way if they are to grab that fifth rung of the premiership ladder.

Other grades

DESPITE sitting on the third rung of the ladder, the division one team is not assured of a finals berth and after going down by 12 goals against Koroit after being all tied up at the main break.

Rhianne Lewis, who played her 350th club game on Saturday, was best on court for the Roos, while Jess Crane and Amanda Douglas both played well.

Hamilton Kangaroos’ division two team lost fourth place on the ladder after a one-goal loss to Koroit which came from a goal down at three-quarter time, 31-32.

Brooke Gordon, Taylah Casey and Bec Sherlock were superb for the home side, but the side fell just short, and it will have to win at least one of its remaining two games to be assured a finals berth.

Division three team bucked the losing trend of the other senior teams by defeating Koroit, 46-30, as Mimi Chun and Sharney Millard starred for the home side.

The victory keeps the Roos atop the ladder on percentage from Terang-Mortlake with the last round game between these teams likely to decide the minor premiership.

The struggles of the Hamilton Kangaroos against Koroit filtered into the junior grades too with the 17-and-Under team dropping to fifth after losing 37-53, although the side did all within their grasp to stay in the contest.

The 15-and-Under team went down 19-39, despite the best efforts of Lily Raymond, Holly Rook and Olivia Hardy as the team struggled to stay with the Saints, but the side can assure it plays finals with victory against Camperdown this coming Saturday.

The 13-and-Under team gave the visitors the perfect start to the day by downing the previously undefeated Koroit 25-20, to be equal on points with the Saints atop the ladder but in second spot on percentage.
