HAMILTON Kangaroos Division three team has won a thrilling grand final against Terang-Mortlake at Reid Oval in overtime on Saturday, 38-36, after scores were tied at the sound of the siren to end the fourth quarter.
The Roos trailed for the first three quarters as Terang-Mortlake came out determined to reverse the result of the semifinal two weeks previously.
At the end of the first quarter Hamilton trailed by four goals and then fought back in the second quarter to trim the lead to only two goals at the long break thanks to some great defensive work that saw turnover ball produced.
The Bloods regrouped in the third term to extend the lead to five goals and the Roos knew that if they were going to claim the flag, they would have to dominate the last quarter.
Trailing by five when the term began, The Kangaroos got the ball to their goalers, Saskia Gould (GS) and Belinda Carroll (GA) who shot truly all game.
With the Roos clawing back to tie the score at 29 when the siren sounded to end the game, the team went into overtime with the momentum and added a further nine gaols to claim the premiership.
“It was an extremely close fought out battle., with the game ending in a draw where the girls then had to play extra time six-minutes an end,” Hamilton Kangaroos Netball Director, Rebecca Sherlock said.
“At one stage the girls played with only 6 players on the court and at the end of the extra time we came away with the win.
“Ellorah McConarchy was awarded best-on-court in the division 3 grand final.
“She plays GK and took pivotal intercepts at crucial moments in the game. She was a strong feature in the defence end.
