THE Hamilton Kangaroos fell short of a win but were far from disgraced in the Hampden Football Netball League round 15 clash, going down to fourth-placed Terang-Mortlake by 20 points at Mortlake’s D.C. Farran Oval on Saturday.

The Roos had the same amount of scoring shots as the Bloods, but inaccuracy cost the visitors any chance of an upset win.

Four behinds in the first term saw the Roos go into quarter time trailing by 16 points.

Hamilton was able to match the home side for much of the remainder of the game, with the two teams both scoring 2.1 in the second term.

The visitors then came out after half time and kicked 2.4, winning the quarter by eight points, before the Bloods ensured they held firm, going on to win, 10.7 (67) to 6.11 (47).

Taine Morris and Darcy Russell each kicked two majors for the Kangaroos, while Brady Hicks and Vincent Huf were impressive as well.

Will Kain proved the difference though, kicking five majors for Terang-Mortlake.

Other games

THE Kangaroos’ reserves team fell to Terang-Mortlake by 12 points in a low-scoring battle.

The Roos started well, kicking two goals to none, to go into quarter time leading by 14 points.

Terang-Mortlake then responded and had closed the deficit to just one point by half time.

The second half saw the home side push on and grabbed the lead, going into the final break with a 10-point lead.

Hamilton was unable to reel in the deficit and went down, 2.6 (18) to 4.6 (30).

Brent Mullins and Jack Roberts were the Roos’ goal kickers, while Bailey Mason was the blue and white’s best on ground.

The Under-18 clash saw Hamilton make light work of the Bloods, winning by 56 points, to retain second spot on the ladder.

Despite inaccuracy at times, it was a dominant performance from the visitors, scoring 3.5 in the first half.

The Kangaroos added six goals in the second half to win, 9.10 (64) to 1.2 (8).

Thomas Calvert and Eddie McShane each kicked two goals for the Roos, while Brodie Phillips was the team’s best on ground.

The Under-16s also had an elimination final on Sunday, facing Warrnambool at Hanlon Park, but went down by 32 points.

The Roos made the most of their chances in the first term, kicking three straight goals to the Blues’ 2.5, to take a narrow lead into the first break.

Warrnambool then added five goals to one in the second term to grab the momentum and went into half time leading by 23 points.

Hamilton tried to reel in the deficit, but eventually lost, 7.4 (46) to 11.12 (78).
