Four Roos in prelim final action

THE Hamilton Kangaroos will be vying for grand final spots, with four netball sides in action, highlighted by the Division 1 side.

Roos Div 1 coach, Lauren Killen said the group is feeling good ahead of the knockout clash against North Warrnambool Eagles.

“We are feeling pretty good to still be in the finals, the experience of the girls in Division 1, you can’t buy that, and between the 300 gamers and 350 gamers, we are looking good,” she said.

“When we need to be calmed down, the girls know to reset – if the ball is in our possession, the other team can’t score.”

The preliminary final is also a milestone game for Amanda Douglas, who plays game number 350.

Killen said it was a great achievement for the club stalwart.

“We will try and treat it like any other game, but obviously 350 games is quite outstanding,” Killen said.

“And when you throw in four pregnancies and an achilles injury, it is a great effort.”

With a fit squad and everyone available, it will only be the fourth time it has happened this season, but Killen is wary of the Eagles.

“North have been playing really well in finals,” she said.

“This game will be fast paced, if I take someone off, it will only be too get their breath back.

“We definitely need to shut down their attacking end and their defensive end is strong as well

“We have won the last two, but they haven’t been easy.”

Having watched last week’s semi-final between the Eagles and Koroit, Killen knows her experienced players must have an impact today.

“I think the calibre of players we have, they know they have to step up,” she said.

“Kelsey and Hayley, the combination they have together and knowing where each other is, is amazing.

“Hayley is a big importance to us through the midcourt, and Rhianne Lewis and Bailey Ryan at the other end as well.”

The game starts at 12.15pm.
