NEW COACHES TAKE RAMS’ REINS FOR 2023

GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD is looking to take the next step in its progression, as its teams prepare for the 2023 Mininera District Football League and the Mininera and District Netball League campaigns.

The Rams have Tom Waters coaching the senior football side for this season, while Laura Matthews oversees the A grade netball team, as the club seeks to build upon the solid foundations laid over the last few years.

FOOTBALL

INs: Nathan Fall (Hamilton Kangaroos), Dylan Woods and Jeremy Woods (Ararat Rats), Ben Cole (Bannockburn), Cody Honnor (Edenhope-Apsley).

OUTs: Josh Dawson (Harrow-Balmoral), Andrew Lowe.

ASIDE from Waters overseeing the whiteboard, the Rams will be looking to get the best from their recruits, as Cole lines up in the ruck, and Nathan Fall and Dylan Woods in the midfield, while Jeremy Woods will play his role across either the half-back or half-forward lines, with Honnor slotting into either the midfield or the half-back line.

The loss of Lowe and Dawson is a blow to the squad, but the new recruits and those still at the club will cover their roles across the ground.

Pre-season for the Rams started in December and the club has steadily seen numbers increase each week, as round one approaches.

With three days until the first game against the Swans at Caramut, the Rams report no injuries heading into the game, so the selectors will have a full complement to choose from.

Last season Glenthompson-Dunkeld snuck into the finals in fifth place, just half a game in front of Penshurst, but the team was beaten by 70 points in the first round of finals by Woorndoo-Mortlake, and the squad will have to improve across the ground if it’s to mix it with the big boys.

Under Waters, the Rams will be looking to play a high pressure, attacking style of football that should bring the club success if the players can execute the game plan each week.

NETBALL

INs: Krystal Day, Elly Dixon, Jess McLeod, Nicky Lowe and Jane Robertson.

OUTs: Issy Close (Harrow-Balmoral), Jess Field (Geelong), Sarah Alderman and Jo Amott.

MATTHEWS is the new A grade coach and she is looking for her players to deliver consistent netball this season.

“We want to see the basics being executed really well, which will build team cohesion especially as we have so many new faces in the squad,” Matthews said.

Krystal Day and Nicky Lowe are expected to line up at the defensive end of the court, while Jess McLeod and Elly Dixon will play major roles in the midcourt and Jane Robertson will be under the hoop at the attacking end.
