HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR has returned to the Mininera and District Football League winners list with a comprehensive performance against Moyston-Willaura on Saturday.
The Eagles travelled to Willaura Recreation Reserve to take on the Pumas, who were boosted by the inclusion of Kane Cornes, but the visitors put the home side to the sword from the outset, winning by 119 points.
The first term was a sign of things to come, as Hawkesdale-Macarthur edged out to a 19-point lead at the first break, but it was the second half where the visitors did the scoreboard damage, kicking 13 goals to nil to win, 20.14 (134) to 1.3 (9).
Lachlan Glare kicked six majors for the winners, while Aaron Seabrook was the visitors’ best.
Eagles coach, Josh Reichman said it was a strong performance across the ground.
“It was a good four-quarter effort, it took a quarter and a half to get where we wanted to, but I think once we got there, we were in control,” he said.
“In the third quarter we were able to turn the clearances around, and the back men were able to create the running game which got us on top.
“Simon Sharrock came in and played his first game for the season and he really helped us in the 50-70m mark from goals as well.”
Reichman said the wins were important, along with the percentage boost.
“There are going to be some teams fighting for some spots, we feel like we aren’t too far away though – we have lost two games under a goal and yet we are sitting 2-4, but playing games like today in the must wins, we are doing that well,” he said.
