GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD has maintained its undefeated start to the Mininera and District Netball Association season with an emphatic victory against Moyston-Willaura at Dunkeld Recreation Reserve, 44 to 22.
The defensive players for the home side were not going to allow the visitors any opportunity to gain a foothold in the game, as they continually turned the ball over.
The transition from defence to attack was quick and precise, as Eleanor Dixon (WD) and Jenna Loats (C) combined to put the Rams on the front foot throughout the game, as both were rewarded by being named best on court.
The home side started by playing attacking netball and they carried that game plan all through the contest, as the margin on the scoreboard increased with every passing quarter.
Yet again Jane Robertson (GS) and Eve Duckmanton (GA) showed their class in goals, as they netted 35 goals in only three quarters on court, as Rams coach, Laura Matthews, had the luxury of being able to rest her star goalers for a quarter in each of the last two games.
Hawkesdale-Macarthur d Caramut
CARAMUT was on the road to Macarthur Recreation Reserve, and they made the home side fully earn its victory in going down, 34-39.
The goalers for both teams had poor returns on the day with no one shooting above 43 per cent, as the Eagles had 50 attempts to the Swans’ 48 for the game.
This stat shows how even the game was, as the ball rebounded up and back on court with neither team taking its opportunities when they were presented.
The scores were tied at 7-7 when the first siren sounded, and come half time, the home side had gained a three-point advantage that was cut to two at the three quarter time siren.
By outscoring the Swans 10-7 in the final term, the Eagles were more focused on gaining victory, but running the game out, but it could have been so much different for the visitors had the ball dropped through the hoop more often.
Victory sees the Eagles hold onto fourth place on the ladder, while the Swans are yet to post a victory despite being in every game to date.
Tatyoon d Penshurst
Reigning premier, Tatyoon, remains atop the A grade ladder, as the Hawks took care of business against the visiting Penshurst at Tatyoon Recreation Reserve, 56 to 15.
The visitors were swept aside in the first half, as the Hawks posted 30 goals to lead by 25 at the long break, and Bombers coach, Leah Mirtschin, took the opportunity to swap her players around the court, as she looked to the future.
Penshurst had five players add their names to the score sheet, as Mirtschin looked to find the best attacking combination to try and stop the bleeding against the all-powerful Hawks.
Tatyoon was far too good for the visitors, but the Bombers now know what standard they have to achieve if they want to be competitive against the best teams.
Other games
GREAT WESTERN held off a fast-finishing Wickliffe-Lake Bolac to claim victory at Central Par on Saturday, 38-34, in a highly entertaining game.
The Lions opened a nine-point lead at the main break and looked likely to go on and extend the margin in the second half, but the visitors refused to be swept aside, as they won the third term to set up a frantic finish.
SMW Rovers took the game right up to Woorndoo-Mortlake at Mininera Recreation Reserve in the first quarter before the visitors took control of the contest and ran away with the match to win, 51-32.
The final game in round three saw Ararat Eagles travel to Derrinallum Recreation Reserve to battle Lismore-Derrinallum, but two 13-goal quarters in the second and third terms took the wind from the Demons’ sails, and the visitors ran away with the victory, 44-21, to remain second on the ladder and be one of only three teams to be unbeaten.
