EAGLES UPSET AS DEMONS PREVAIL

HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR suffered a huge upset on Saturday as Lismore-Derrinallum held firm at Lismore Recreation Reserve to win, 13.10 (88) to 11.13 (79).

The Eagles entered the game as firm favourites as the side sat on the third rung of the ladder while their hosts occupied seventh place having only posted four wins.

Each team won two quarters, but the margins were minor when the visitors won theirs and they couldn’t drag the 13-point margin at the final change back any further than eight points despite having twice as many shots on goal in the final term as their hosts.

Lachie Constable provided a focal point for the Demons to attack through and he finished the day with seven majors to his credit, while Alexander White was the only multiple goal kicker for Hawkesdale-Macarthur with three.

Aaron Seabrook, Sam Hodgins, Ollie Wortley, Rick Glare, Alexander White, and Archie Buck were the best for Hawkesdale-Macarthur, while Henry Walsh, Lachie Constable, Hayden Brett, Will Langley, Blake Scott, and Jack McCallum made sure the home side pocketed the points.

Glenthompson-Dunkeld dw Tatyoon

THERE was a hollow feeling that swept across Glenthompson Recreation Reserve late on Saturday afternoon as Glenthompson-Dunkeld and Tatyoon played a brilliant game of football that ended in a draw, 14.9 (93) apiece.

The visitors came to play and had seven goals on the board in the first term as the reigning premiers look to defend their flag, while the Rams posted five majors of their own in an entertaining first quarter but trailed by 11 points at the siren.

The home side roared back into the contest with a four goal to one second term to take the lead into the long break and the supporters must have been buoyed the way the team was playing.

Attacking football was the theme of the third term as both teams moved the ball into their attacking 50, with the Rams posting four goals and the Hawkes five to take a three-point lead at the final change of ends.

Each team wasn’t prepared to let the game slip and they produced a goal each in the final quarter, but the home side will be ruing the five behinds they kicked as well, which brought them level with Tatyoon who only added two behinds.

Tyler Staude, Ben Cole, Alexander Prentice, James Lloyd, Thomas Waters, and Jezza Woods were standouts for the Rams.

Penshurst d Ararat Eagles

PENSHURST made the road trip to Alexandra Oval on Saturday and remained undefeated atop the premiership ladder as the Bombers took care of business with a 15.14 (104) to 7.8 (50) victory over Ararat Eagles.

Ian Milera and Josh Rentsch (three goals each) were well held by the Eagles, but it didn’t stop the Bombers from finding other avenues to goal with Jacob Mibus and Jaykeb Paley each bagging a brace of goals in support.

Sam Weston, Jack Kruger, William Bester, Aaron Glare, Jock Barrie, and Jaykeb Paley were judged best for Penshurst.

While the Bombers remain way in front of all others, the Eagles sit fifth, equal on points with Woorndoo-Mortlake and Hawkesdale-Macarthur with Tatyoon only half a win behind.

Other games

WOORNDOO-MORTLAKE hosted Moyston-Willaura at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve and the home side won 12.16 (88) to 7.11 (53).

GREAT WESTERN lifted its place in the premiership with a strong performance against SMW Rovers at North Park, Stawell winning 20.17 (137) to 7.7 (49) as Nick Costello snagged a bag of nine goals for the home side.

Wickliffe-Lake Bolac remains undefeated, hot on the heels of Penshurst, with another victory on Saturday with Caramut proving to be no match for the Magpies at Lake Bolac Recreation Reserve, 19.20 (134) to 4.3 (27).
