Bombers out to book grand final spot

THE Mininera and District Football League finals roll on today with semi-final weekend, as Penshurst looks to book a spot in the grand final.

The Bombers will face-off against minor premier, Wickliffe-Lake Bolac, with the Magpies getting the better of the red and black in round 10 by nine points, but Penshurst was missing some key personnel.

Penshurst can atone for the loss with a strong performance today, which would give them next week off and a spot in the season decider.

The midfield battle will be critical at Hawkesdale Recreation Reserve, with both teams keen to lock the ball in their inside 50 and wear down their opposing defenders.

Josh Rentsch and Ian Milera will be hoping to make the most of forward entries for the Bombers, as the duo have combined for 169 goals for the season, and will cause plenty of headaches for the Magpies this afternoon.

Other games

THE first semi-final will see Hawkesdale-Macarthur out to eliminate Lismore-Derrinallum and progress through to next week’s preliminary final.

The Eagles finished just one win behind the Demons on the ladder, but injuries have impacted the team at important times this season, and coach, Xavier McCartney, will be hoping to get some reinforcements back for the knockout final at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve.

The reserves second semi-final this afternoon will see Penshurst and Glenthompson-Dunkeld face-off at Hawkesdale Recreation Reserve with the winner getting a week off and direct entry into the grand final.

The loser will face the winner of tomorrow’s first semi-final, which will be played at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve between Ararat Eagles and Lismore-Derrinallum.

The Under-16.5 games will see Glenthompson-Dunkeld and Tatyoon face-off in the second semi-final today, while Moyston-Willaura and Caramut will battle for survival in tomorrow’s knockout first semi-final at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve.

Semi-final weekend can often throw up some upset results, and with the season reaching its climax over the next fortnight, every team will have plenty to play for.
