Big margins in South West footy

IT was a lopsided weekend of football in the South West District Football League, with the smallest margin of victory recorded across the four matches being 64 points.

With the season now three quarters of the way through, the jostling for finals positioning looks set to continue for another month.

Darty takes care of Westerns

Dartmoor maintained their grip on that all-important third spot with an emphatic 126-point victory over Westerns.

The Giants proved to be a class above from the get-go, adding to their margin consistently across the four quarters to ultimately prevail with ease, with the final score reading 21.16 (142) to 2.4 (16).

Kaleb Bowd, Lachie Polaski, Joseph Franklin, William Watson, Steve Cameron and Jake Casey were named in Dartmoor’s best, while Noah Knight, Stephen O’Brien, Dylan Marlow, Lachie Warburton, Joseph Saunders and Jacob Ritchie.

Darras handle Meres

An 11-goal haul to Jordi Withers highlighted a dominant display from Tyrendarra as they took care of business against Heathmere, 16.16 (112) to 7.6 (48).

Save for a fightback in the third quarter by Heathmere, it was all one-way traffic in the Darras’ direction, with Withers putting himself alongside Coleraine’s Will Slattery atop the goal-kicking tally with 45 majors apiece.

Withers, James Williams, Tommy Haylock, Luke Bennett, Jack Burton and Patty Haylock were Tyrendarra’s best, while Jamie Eccles, Luke Driscoll, Cody Driscoll, Noah Johnson, Ethan Watt and Cooper Anson were best for Heathmere.

Coleraine too good for Heywood

Coleraine has continued to put the pressure on top-placed Cavendish with another impressive victory, this time defeating Heywood 17.13 (115) to 7.8 (50).

The Maroons built themselves a 19-point buffer in the first term and continued to build upon that throughout the rest of the contest, scoring at least four goals in every quarter, as Will Slattery and Patrick Sinnott kicked 10 goals between them.

Robert Mackinnon, Slattery, Liam Kaine, Charles Youngman, Adam Ward and Jack Wright were Colerain’s best, while Heywood got some strong efforts from Joshua Stiles, Malakai Walsh-Bannam, Leon Davis, Richard Bamblett, Billy Bell and Michael Bell.

Bloods thump Saints

Cavendish’s stifling defence was on full display against Branxholme-Wallacedale, as they rampaged to a 16.19 (115) to 2.2 (14) victory on their home deck.

The Bloods held their opposition goalless through three quarters while continuing to pile on the heat at the other end, as Kane Uebergang bagged seven for the day.

Brodhi Carracher, Uebergang, Jonathon Coghlan, William Luhrs, Harrison Rees and Aiden Luhrs were the Bloods’ best, while the Saints’ Colby Hammond, Daniel Blake, Samuel Lambevski, Kieran Barker, Daniel Menzel and Tim Cogger fought hard all day.
