AN incredible defensive effort from Cobden has seen the Hamilton Kangaroos stopped in their tracks after resuming for the third term where the home side added only a single behind for the entire second half as the Bombers took out the Hampden Football Netball League round 10 match, 13.11 (89) to 6.4 (40).
The home side was on a roll after coming back into the contest leading into the halftime break and looked likely to go on with the game upon resumption for the third term, but the visitors just halted all such plans with a stunning display of defensive football.
The Bombers kicked 5.7 for the second half to the Roos 0.1 to take the wind from the sails of the home side as they kept the Blue and White scoreless for the third term.
The Roos had done the hard work in the second term to drag themselves back into the game with four goals to match the output of their visitors, but they were simply stopped from continuing the form of the first half.
Ethan Knight, Harry McGinley, Cameron Pither, Cameron Whyte, Brady Hicks, and Jack English were the best of a well held Roos outfit with only Darcy Russell (two) kicking multiple goals in his first game since round four due to injury.
Hamish Cook was held goalless as the young key forward had his toughest day at the office in his fledgling career.
Reserves
HAMILTON KANGAROOS reserves had a miserable day at Hawkesdale Recreation Reserve on Saturday as Cobden went about keeping the Roos backs tormented all game long as the Bombers won, 1.0 (6) to 22.16 (148).
Bailey Mason, Oscar Linke, Hunter Plush, Jordy Anthony, Jake Tonissen, and Jack Hickey were the best of a well beaten Hamilton Kangaroos team which didn’t get on the scoreboard until the final term.
Under-18
THE Under-18 team was back on the winning side of the equation on Saturday as they accounted for Cobden, 20.13 (133) to 1.3 (9), to help wipe away the taste of defeat left in their mouths after losing to Warrnambool Blues last weekend.
The Roos forwards were wasteful in the first and last terms with poor kicking for goal, but in between they found their radar and fired the ball through the big sticks.
Eddie McShane, Archie Porter, Zac Elliott, Kyle Rhook, Harlie Manson, and Hunter Van Someren were judged the best of a very good performance with skipper, Eddie McShane landing a bag of 10 goals to easily be the leading goal kicker in the grade.
Under-16
HAMILTON KANGAROOS had a comfortable victory against Cobden with the young Roos keeping the Bombers scoreless in the second half to win, 11.16 (82) to 1.3 (9).
Xavier White, Harry Mercer, Jack Sobey, Bailey Clarke, Isaac Lehmann, and Ned Hintum were the best players for the Blue and White as the team displayed a good tough brand of football.
Under-14
THE Kangaroos game against Cobden and they had to earn the points with a four-quarter performance in winning, 7.7 (49) to 4.3 (27) as Oscar Templeton, Theo Lehmann, Beau Brian, Zanda Ewing, Aiden Christie, and Jake Malseed shone brightest for the visitors.
