THE Hamilton Kangaroos will be out to book a spot in the Western Victoria Female Football League decider when they travel to Stawell’s North Park to take on the Horsham Demons in today's preliminary final.
The clash is a repeat of last year’s grand final, which the Roos won by 12 points, but will need to overcome some unfavourable history in 2023, having lost two of the three contests to their northern opponents.
Roos coach, Pat Sherlock said the team was excited for the clash in what will be the penultimate game of the season.
“Bit of a rivalry continuing against Horsham, the girls are looking forward to it,” he said.
“We have got a better side in, so going into the game with pretty much a full list for hopefully the first time this season.
“Not too many injury concerns, a couple of girls rolled their ankles that are fine playing, but just mindful of them during the week.”
The Kangaroos lost to the Demons in round 1 by eight points and round 11 by 21 points but claimed victory at home in round six by 19 points, setting up an intriguing battle tomorrow.
Hamilton played a game at North Park last year and Sherlock expects the big ground to play into the team’s ball movement patterns.
The Demons are coming off a loss to South Warrnambool last week and have been without vice-captain, Jedah Huf for the past few weeks with injury, but Sherlock is planning for her return to the Horsham side for the cutthroat clash.
“I am assuming Jedah Huf will play, she broke her arm four or so weeks ago but planning for her to play,” he said.
“This year has been a tough one with personnel, so from my point of view, just making it as stress free as possible.
“You’d be silly not to expect a grind, but if we can control the game for five minutes a quarter, we can score heavily.
“We have got a few girls who have got a bit of experience, so they will try and control things and get the first contest out of the way then push on and let the rest work itself out.”
