WESTERN Victoria Female Football League reigning premiers, Hamilton Kangaroos, are looking to advance to another senior women’s grand final when they battle Horsham Demons at Reid Oval Sunday afternoon.
Last season the blue and white had to do it the hard way by winning the flag from third on the ladder, defeating the Demons in the 2023 decider to claim premiership glory.
This season the competition has ditched the five-team finals system and reverted to a four-team system which means each game is cut throat with only the semi-final winners advancing.
The Kangaroos again finished third after the home and away season, while the Demons had one more win than the Roos and finished second.
Having played each other twice this season, the scoreline stands at one-all, with the Roos victors by nine points in round two and the Demons winning by 40 points in round seven.
Horsham won its last seven games of the season after losing two games in the opening three rounds to be the form side of the competition, while the Kangaroos has had only one game in the month leading into Sunday’s fixture due to opposition forfeits.
Hamilton Kangaroos coach, Pat Sherlock, knows his team has the experience to win big games, but they cannot take it as a given they will advance to the big dance, they must earn their spot.
“All players who are available are fully fit and ready to go,” he said.
“If we get through to the grand final, then we will have a few players returning to fight for spots in the side.
“We know what Horsham brings to the game and we have to compete for the football across the ground for all four quarters.
“We have played at Reid Oval only twice this season, but we know how to play the venue and it suits our style of play, despite our home ground being smaller.”
Sherlock didn’t single out any one Horsham player that his team must shut down, rather he was intent on his players nullifying the Horsham midfield and their impact on the game.
“Our defence is strong and works as a unit, but the midfield is where we have to stop their attack,” Sherlock said.
First bounce is at 12.45pm.

CAVENDISH also is on the road to Warrnambool on Sunday when the Bloods battle Terang-Mortlake at Reid Oval, beginning at 2.25pm.
Cavendish finished third on the ladder while Terang-Mortlake was second with these teams meeting two weeks ago in the last round of home and away season.
The two meetings between the teams saw Terang-Mortlake win both games, but the margins were close with 14 points and nine points separating the sides.
With South Warrnambool expected to await the winner of this game in the grand final, both teams know that a strong performance is critical to stay alive in the premiership hunt.

PORTLAND TIGERS awaits the arrival of Hamilton Kangaroos at Reid Oval when the two teams meet at 9.40am in the second semi-final.
With the Tigers only dropping two games for the season, the Kangaroos are aware of the task ahead of them, being well beaten in both games between these teams this season.
