Bunker shots

 IT has been a busy week of golf at the Hamilton Golf Club, starting with last Saturday’s event which saw 47 men and 18 ladies play in stableford competition.

The O’Brien family were in great form with Mark winning the A grade men’s section and daughter, Molly, winning the women’s competition, after both returned to the clubhouse with 38 points.

Runner-up in the men’s A grade was Chuck Raymond on a three-way countback from Terry Dunn and Luke Balkin, after the trio all finished with 35 points.

B grade’s winner continued his good form from last week, as John Raymond accrued 39 points to finish one clear of runner-up, David Edwards.

Stephen Giles, Cameron MacDonald and Shannon Kearns all finished with 37 points.

Runner-up to Molly O’Brien in the women’s competition was Cheryl Brinkmann with 36 points, while Gerri Griffin and Careena McDonald both finished the round with 34 points.

Nearest the pins went to Callem Mizzi and Brinkmann on the third, Mark Williams and Kerryn Price on the sixth, John Mitchell and Molly on the 13th, Adam Manson on the 16th and the closest second shot on the 15th went to Trevor Wathen.

The Melbourne Cup Day saw a field of 119 players take part in a fun four-person ambrose event.

The winning team was Leigh Alexander, Stephen Nelson, Tim Cameron and Andrew Hirst, combining for 53 nett.

The runners-up were Kim Fielke, Andrew Bowman, Liam Bowman and Tony O'Connor two shots further back, winning a countback to hold off third-placed Mizzi, Kedar Giles and Zoey McIntosh.

Nearest the pins went to Jo Forsyth and Rory Gill on the third, Lisa Jakobi and Andrew Bowman on the sixth, Ann Dickinson and John Raymond on the 13th, while the 16th honours went to Kevin King and Sue Vickery.

The longest putt on the 18th went to Tania Cullinane, while nearest the string on the fifth went to Val Linke and Hamish Waldron.

Wednesday ladies

THE Wednesday women’s competition was the Captain's Trophy - Robyn's Rules - with 49 players.

The day had a mixture of fun challenges including putting with hockey sticks on a couple of holes, three-stick challenges, driving with opposite hand and some greenkeeper revenge holes.

Winner of the Captain's Trophy on a countback was Bronwyn Dwight with nett 74 from Jenny Fishburn.

Holcombe finished third with 76 nett, while Susie Bell finished fourth with 77 nett.

Nearest the pins went to Di Raymond on the third, Brinkmann on the sixth and Cullinane on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the 13th went to Jen Hutton.

Liz Nichol hit the longest putt with a hockey stick on the first, while the least amount of putts through croquet hoops on the second went to Jenny Fishburn, Pam King, Nettie Purvis and Gerri Griffin, who all had two putts; the most putts went to Cullinane with six

Nearest the string off the fairway went to Jeanette Carmichael on the fifth, while the greenkeeper’s revenge longest putt on the seventh was won by Forsyth and Lyn O’Brien won the same prize on the last hole.

The longest drive with opposite hand on the ninth was won by Raymond, while Forsyth won the same award on the 15th.

Holcombe holed the longest putt with a hockey stick on the 10th.

Witches hats were set up on the 11th hole and Fishburn was the slicer, while Sandy Van Rennen was the hooker.

The longest drive on the 14th saw Cullinane win A grade, Carmichael win B grade and Margie Hadley win C grade.

Balls down the line went to Carmichael, Rachel Slade, Pam King, Vickery, Jen Pike and Griffin.

A reminder to all players that the Victorian Government has mandated that golfers must be fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption to play golf.

Proof of vaccination needs to be provided to our clubhouse manager, Katrina, prior to playing golf.

The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday at 6pm.
