HAMILTON Golf Club held a very successful annual tournament, but the weather created extra challenges on Friday and Saturday with increased winds.
Friday 4BBB
A BIG field of 99 players contested the event with Cheryl Brinkmann and Gerri Griffin combining for +9 to claim top honours, one clear of runners-up, Gina Kelly and Irene Box.
Third on countback was Tania Butcher and Jenny Foster with +7, edging out Lyn Satchell and Kerryn Price.
The men’s winners were Ian Harris and Brent Bell with +7, just ahead of runners-up, Graham Rentsch and Michael O'Brien, on a countback from Ron Timms and Neil Bradford with +6.
Nearest the pins went to Tony O’Connor and Nettie Purvis on the third, O’Connor and Leeanne Ritchie on the sixth, Chubby Hawker and Sally Robertson on the 13th and Neil Bradford and Lyn Hayes on the 16th.
The progressive nearest the pin with the second shot on the ninth went to O’Connor (2.7m) and Satchell (5.6m).
Saturday stroke
THE men’s 36-hole stroke championship turned out to be a very exciting finish with a play-off for the A grade scratch winner between Tim Farquharson and Simon Goggin needed after both finished with 147 off the stick.
The playoff was sudden death starting on 18th hole and Farquharson managed to birdie the 18th hole to claim the top honours.
Cameron Taggert finished third with 158.
B grade scratch winner was Damien Ferguson with 173, ahead of John Andrews 180 and Wayne Millard with 181.
A grade handicap winner was Mal Groves 147 nett on a countback from James Brown, with John Hill in third with 152 nett
B grade handicap winner was Nick Templeton 149 nett ahead of Steve Giles 150, and Hamish Waldron 151 nett.
The 18-hole morning field - A grade - scratch winner - Luke Balkin 81, handicap winner - Adam Manson 71 nett and B grade - scratch winner - Col Elsom 87, handicap winner - Guy Sevior 75 nett.
The 18-hole afternoon field - A grade - scratch winner - Graham Rentsch 76, handicap winner - Ben Kelson 75 nett and B grade - scratch winner - Tony O'Connor 92, handicap winner Tim Walkenhorst 79 nett.
Saturday stableford
THE men’s 18-hole stableford winner was Glenn Hards with 36 points on a countback from Kevin King, with Andrew Keane finishing third with 34.
Women's 18-hole stableford honours went to Tania Cullinane with 36 points, ahead of Brinkmann and Jenny Fishburn.
Nearest the pins went to Manson and Purvis on the third, Rentsch on the sixth, Daniel Battista and Deb Pinniger on the 13th and Shaun McKenzie and Margie Hadley on the 16th.
Sunday four-person gentsomes
BRUCE Luhrs, John Luhrs, Will Luhrs and Aiden Luhrs topped the standings with 139 points, holding off R. Russell, Ron Oakley, Andrew Borgmeyer and Bailey Borgmeyer by three points.
3rd place: Michael Holcombe, John Mitchell, Karen Mitchell & Lyn Satchell 135pts
Nearest the pins went to Cullinane and Battista on the third, Robyn Holcombe and O’Connor on the sixth, Price and Andrew Bowman on the 13th and Julie Ryan and Michael O’Brien on the 16th.
Second shot on the ninth went to Fishburn (4.6m) and James Brown (260mm)
Wednesday ladies
THE 81 strong field of ladies competed in a Texas Ambrose in what ended up being a close contest in the end.
Deb Pinniger, Alexandra Kelso, Jane Bunge and Bec Small combined for 61 nett to win ahead of Price, Rhonda Scullion, Evelyn Coulson and Julia Howells on a countback for second.
Relegated to third was Enid Smith, Jen Pike, Helen Beattie and Camilla Rodwell.
Fourth went to Glen Dixon, Fran McMell, Deb Chambers and Nicki Martin with 64 1/8 nett, ahead of fifth-placed Fishburn, Dawn Cay, Rhonda Osborn and Chantal Butcher with 64 7/8 nett, Lyn Satchell, Di Hatherall, Liz Nichol and Tim O'Brien 65 2/8 nett, Ath Archer, Pam Howell, Jen Hutton and Jo Brown 65 4/8 nett, and Robyn Holcombe, Rachel Slade, Carolyn Lewis and Leanne Rhook with 65 5/8.
Nearest the pins went to Holcombe on the third, Pinniger on the 16th and Nola Beks claimed the longest putt on the 13th.
Upcoming events
NEXT Wednesday is the Women’s Pink Day, which is a fundraiser for Western District Health Care Cancer Unit.
With a field of 124 women booked in for the 4BBB fun event, the fairways will be a sea of pink.
